I believe they licensed it from Outpost.

Agreed its been quite good to me so far. Looking to get an upgrade to Premier from AIS. If not, a nice discount on Premier edition at some point.

Don't trust such a test ... (why ? see comments above).

I like Avast and would never make a decision based only on a video review
MalwareDoctor seems pretty consistent and fair across all his reviews maybe not perfect but what you see is what you get.
I know the samples may be questionable and therefore not a totally accurate test even so the machine got infected to one degree or another.
I was just a little surprised Avast didn't do better.

popcorn i guess right now v8 has less YT reviews and 1 review shows nothing and also you missed manzai's test that had pure undetected fresh samples and none is hype everything is the truth:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRHib0Q2CIA

and a fail test is a fail..most of his sample set are either small and not filtered correctly all from virussign packs yet again.

HMP and MBAM results were nothing but:

hacktool [that Facebook one is just detected by Ikarus on virustotal]
2 corrupt malware files [I know this because I have the exact files downloaded on my VM and they are corrupt and or a PUP]

and on careful watch of the vid, gnom.exe and z.exe were detected by evo-gen in the vid and also right now it still remains a mystery how it got into the system as I tested them on my own win8 vm and avast blocked it fine and the same 2 files didnt get past on another test done by ptup [name of a reviewer] on YT.Something is definately fishy here rejzor

Though it needs to have the same hash. I know i've seen loads of z.exe named files that were different samples. So you can't compare directly by name only. Haven't seen gnom.exe so far though...

I did see manzai's test I was expecting to see similar results here
For HMP and Mbam to have that many FP's is unlikely, I think it's fair to say that in this test Avast didn't keep a 100% clean sheet
That's what I was expecting to see.

There is also one thing thats bothering me. If something is found on disk but wasn't running during the test, on what level does that qualify as compromised? I have yet to see malware that does its job and doesn't run as resident.
So anything that is found on disk and is not running even after system reboot is a not compromised from my view.

As for the HMP, anything detected by IKARUS is slightly questionable and qould require further inspection.

A lot of samples didn't even run on the test system and a lot of samples are aware of VM and will not even do the malicious actions. So again, questionable if you're just tossing stuff against it and you don't really know what it is.

One of the noobish comments ever seen on this review:

is that what he says?? well,a good tester always allows user to base opinions first.:ninja:

Another big reason why MT testers can be called biased.

It's pretty sad to still see informed users basing their decisions on YouTube videos
I still need to see one of them that actually check those links for broken samples, harmless apps and false positives! The maximum they normally do is to upload to VT... Oh well...

Avast is a very good antimalware. Certainly the best of the free ones. I do not want to be rude to the dedicated fans of Avast, but, to be honest, it seems to me that this is still a good old Avast v. 4.8. :D There is a French proverb: "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose (The more things change, the more they stay the same)". Heuristics is still weak, autosandbox almost do nothing, a few shields, including behavior blocker, have no purpose!? In the other side, Avast is light, good looking and has a very good overall detection. :thumb:

    Just my 2c.

What!? seriously you should go ahead read some comments/replies written in avast 8 beta topics about performance in reviews and tests..Heuristics has improved with evo-gen and sandbox is also improved and will be great when they start using Dyna behaviour rules generator..Have you even read and looked at avast 8 beta and final topics?? if not please go back and start reading.... if you had you wouldnt have been making these statements.:argh:

Again, dont make statements when you dont know what you are talking about it creates nothing but confusion.

On top... makes no security sense to run old versions of security tools with weaker detections and potential undisclosed vulnerability not fixed!

    Questions About Ad Blocker

    I've some questions.
    1. What editions of avast! (Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus, Internet Security, and Premier) have the ad blocker feature?
    2. I'm running Adblock Plus on Pale Moon 64-bit (a Firefox-based browser). Is the ad blocker from avast! compatible with Pale Moon, let alone any 64-bit browser (say, Internet Explorer x64 as well)?
    3. If I remove the Adblock Plus extension and install the avast! ad blocker, can I re-import my custom filters into the avast! ad blocker?
    4. Can I opt to re-install the Adblock Plus extension if I disable the avast! ad blocker?
Sorry for the myriad of questions. This feature seems to have flown under the radar in many reviews, so I'm just trying to find out more about it before I upgrade from v7 to v8.

When they start using dyna behaviour rules it (perhaps) will be great. Till then, autosandbox is not particularly useful. :D

I had 30 detections (so far during testing) even though new tech of Dyna generators is not working.
It will get better soon stay tuned ...

With Avast 8 free, OnlineArmor 6.0 and Sandboxie 3.76 on XP SP3, Firefox 19 won't go visible when launched sandboxed.
Firefox shows running in taskmanager. Happens both in admin and user accounts. Chrome opens fine in SBIE though.
SBIE and OA are excluded in Avast and Autosandbox is disabled.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

    edit;
It's the Script Shield setting for Firefox under Script Shield, Settings, Main settings, with that one disabled, Firefox runs fine inside Sandboxie.
