ah i understand what you mean agree we need a smaller installer to install emsisoft in a flash and maybe if they implement a cloud scaner like webroot it will be fantastic but that will depend on the company to listen to clients

 

Do you really think that we're making the download intentionally a single byte bigger than required?

Please consider that Emsisoft Anti-Malware includes about 12 million signatures of malware. Divide the download size by that and you get an idea how efficient we use disk space. We actually have just a few bytes to build a unique detection pattern for a file that should ideally not match on another good file too. Since we combine two scan engines, guess what, the signatures are also more than of a single-engine product, even if we remove no longer needed duplicate signatures continuously.

Why is the setup file that big?

We decided to auto-generate new setup files every day, including the latest signatures. Many other vendors use a tiny empty setup file that starts the download of the program components and signatures during installation. So when comparing download size, please be fair and compare the overall traffic from download start to end of the installation. Hidden traffic is still traffic.

What are the signatures in the setup file?

While everyone can use download tools to speed up the download of the big setup file, nobody can use download optimizers (that use multiple transfer channels) for built-in software updaters.

Additionally, our setup file can be used offline to scan and clean infected machines too. A web installer can't be used for that at all. Providing different files for different purpose confuses people which results in lower customer satisfaction in the end.

I hope this helps a little bit to understand why things are the way they are.

Hello friends. I've been using EAM for a year, but now I uninstalled. I would like to explain the reasons:

- Browsing is really slower than with other antivirus, as Eset or Comodo, (perhaps by the WebShield)
- I do not like the interface, I wish it was more friendly
- I would like when scanning compressed files the antivirus detected the virus in folders. I know that the virus remains inactive, but if I have to send a file to a friend by email, I would like to know for sure if that file is infected or not, without decompressing.
- It would be great that Online Armor and EAM was an only suite.

For everything else, I think it's an excellent program. I have even a 1 year license and I would take it. I hope it serves as a suggestion for future versions.

Sorry to hear that but the PC's I run EAM on have not been affected by that issue. And one of my PC's is an 8 year old XP Pro 3.2 P4 with 1.5Gb of RAM
Also even though I have no issues with the size of signatures or the installation package I love the excellent explanation by the Emsisoft team.

 

I've reinstalled my system and i'm in contact with Fabian, from Emsisoft. I hope i can find a good setup for my PC.

I am using EAM and have found a slight bug in the gui. See the picture. It is tweaking out on both the "Scheduled Scans" page and the "Automatic Updates" page. I'm running version 7.0.0.21.

 

Just checked mine, and I am not having any problems with the GUI on the Automatic Updates page.

Bugs like this are usually caused by some kind of skinning software like for example Stardock WindowBlinds. If you use such software, try to close it and see if the problem still exists.

 

Ah good idea. My Windows is patched to allow skins. I tried the default Windows 7 theme and it worked fine. False alarm I guess.
