That actually looks and sounds quite promising.I know a lot of people dont like Mcafee for whatever reasons but they should be and given a fair chance and it looks like improvements are on the way.

Someone should tell the McAfee something: "It has been done before, you know."

 

Yes it has been done before and Mcafee are not in any shape or form claiming to be pioneers or innovators but merely joining in with game that others are fruitfully playing and i may add with an equal measure of success and failure.

Mcafee are perfectly entitled to improve their product and woe betide anyone with past prejudice or unjustified angst against them hinder this great proposed progress in any way imaginable.
Its a promising and hopefully successful projection into main stream protection which other vendors are enjoying.

Hopefully the full course of this thread will be full of encouragement rather than the usual misinformed personally biased claptrap.

Perhaps new to McAfee, but these things are not new.

I doubt they'd crush botnets.

McAfee has some pros for enterprise environments, but I wouldn't recommend their consumers products to anyone.

A long time ago they used to be good, why did that change ?

If you had read my previous post you would understand that they are not claiming to be innovators or pioneers.
It really is in the best interests of Mcafee and other security vendors to not have to listen to negative views which you yourself have exhibited.
Given a fair chance in a fair environment they are hopefully going to vastly improve and you must recognise that in order to improve they need backing and support rather than negative and prejudiced viewpoints.

 

McAfee does not need backing and support -- they need a decent product.

McAfee has basically 'gotten over' for a long long time. They have produced a very mediocre product but have maintained a decent market share based on their bundling and marketing strategies.

So, when the next round of tests comes out, we'll see if there is anything to the 'new' McAfee.

Count me as one who is skeptical. They have had plenty of resources for a long time to produce a decent product but have not managed to do so.

 

and some folk still think Norton products are slow and bloated,they don't seem to realise development team changes result in new products and thinking at a company,same may be happening at McAfee

 

It would be nice to see mcafee improve.
After reading this thread I tried the current McAfee home total protection beta dated from december and It is as bad as the released version. the product uses way to much cpu. mcafee should completely redesign the product from the ground up like symantec did with norton in 2008. mcafee have the resources to produce a fantastic product but instead they simply do not seem to care as long as they make money from pre installed deals.

 

Its been done before. I for one will never touch a product by mcafee. I honestly find it one step above crapware

 

In my experience, the stuff crashes your computer, hogs resources, acts like a virus by deleting critical system files, has mediocre detection, and it can be very difficult to uninstall properly.

What's not to like ?

I'm always sceptical of such claims as av companies do tend to over exaggerate that ability of their software to find unknown threats.

McAfee will be a product to watch, they will get their act together quick. Remember Intel bought them for a reason and you will see AV technology in CPU's very very soon
