Firefox 19.0 Out!

Cool... it got to the point where I didn't trust ANY 3'rd party PDF reader, so I just didn't use one. I really never need one anyway.

Now in the rare occasion that it would come in handy, it's there.

Does enabling/disabling the option require restarting Firefox in order for it to stick? I hope not... this way I can keep it disabled by default, and enable it as needed. Then when I close the (sandboxed) browser it will be back as disabled again.

 

this release is definitely a keeper. Finally a proper version for W8.
Had to shift to chrome temporarily due to slowness issues with 18.

Happy to be using Fx again.

did you lose some extension with the updagrade?

 

Mantra- if you use Kaspersky you will lose all bar one of the extensions, only Anti banner works for now. I note the Mod on their website is rather shirty about anyone mentioning it!!

 

It didn't break any of my extensions, but there are a great many - which ones do you use?

 

I looked at a PDF with 19.0 yesterday and IMO, the rendering was not in the same league as a standalone viewer. Not bad or terrible but not great either. IMO, the viewer built into Chrome is better.

That said, I still feel it's a good idea to always download PDFs and view them from the desktop. But that's my thoughts, clearly not that of the general public (who will love the built in viewer!)

 

I do the same. Always download PDFs with IDM (Internet Download Manager).

 

I've only tried it once so far and it didn't render the PDF correctly, but a sample set of "1" isn't a fair test I'll keep using it for a while and we'll see.

I tend to do that as well, but that's because I usually want to keep the PDF not just read it briefly. Other than that I'm not sure what advantage there is in viewing them from the desktop (assuming they render properly in the browser).

I don't like the idea of a built-in PDF reader, better go with a simple app like Sumatra.

As to Firefox I still consider it to be the browser because of the add-ons and configuration, but I preffer a striped-down build like PaleMoon.
