Mode setting tab --> "RAM used as write cache", set to 0. Of course you must be in non shadowed mode, in order to be able to change the value.

Mind you, setting to 0, only serves in order to run the "TRIMCheck" program. There is no reason to leave it to 0 permanently.

Unless your system needs RAM for other things (i don't know how much you use), 1 GB sounds good. If your system gets starvated, lower it to 512-768MB, but i doubt it.

Tony got in contact with me about the Logo a couple days ago. He said he would add the Logo back in the next release. I'm glad he is doing this, but I also like the old GUI much better. I believe the GUI in 1.1.0.325 looks much better than the new GUI. I'm not sure why he did not just use the old GUI, and integrate the new features into it. He didn't make big changes to the GUI, but the old GUI definitely looks much better to me! To me the color design, placement of objects, down to the spacing within the UI looks much better. I wonder if he would consider going back to old GUI, and just integrating the button with the new features into it. Who else feels this way about the GUI?

While I do agree with you CE, at this point I'd rather see him concentrating on functional issues and enhancements (which he now seems to be addressing in a timely manner)!

Has anyone had an issue with not being able to access the UI? At times I can double click the SD tray Icon, and nothing happens. No UI appears. Then I try to access the UI by the SD desktop tip. I double click it, and the UI will not appear. I just get the the little Windows 7 circle spinning like something is happening in the background, but it disappears after a few seconds. Sometimes I have to reboot before I can access SD's UI again. I believe i'm having a conflict with SD, and WSA again.

I actually had to roll back to another image because my I shortly after installing SD, and WSA my laptop would not boot without using safe mode. I'm not sure which the culprit was since I had NOD 32, WSA, Appguard, and SD on this laptop. I was not running in Shadow Mode when I was unable to reboot. That might sound like a lot, but those applications should run well together since WSA is suppose to be compatible with all major AV's. I'm back to using SD V 1.1.0.325 again for now. I will trying using SD Version 1.2.0.368 again soon without WSA to see if I still have the UI access issue, and boot issues.

I can see your point, but I was thinking it would not be that time consuming for him since he should still have to old GUI.

Guys, my LV/IRS technology intro is finally published at Tweak Town. I have also included a mini-article on TRIMcheck:

    http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/5...erall-safety-net-for-your-computer/index.html

    http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/5...tial-ssd-trim-functionality-tester/index.html

I will follow this up with individual reviews of SD, RX10, Toowiz Time Freeze and more. Tony has been great so far implementing all my suggestions very quickly and answering all questions promptly. I wonder if the guy ever sleeps! :D

    Anyone? *puppy*

How is the latest v370 x64bit performing? :doubt:

I'm considering buying an extra licence and putting SD onto a relatively new Win7 x64bit desktop box. The box just has old school HDD and a basic 4G of RAM - nothing lavish.

Would v370 be the best approach for x64bit now, or use the old but proven v325 x64bit? I'm prepared to give it a go. No unresponsive icons Cutting_Edgetech ?

How do I set up SD to just use the HDD like in the old versions, and not use the RAM [which has enough to do coping with NIS + MBAM in realtime] ?

A sensitive question, and no offense meant, but is it "safe" to buy off SD's website - no one has had unusual credit card activity? I mean Tony's back and it's all good, right?

    -cheers,
    feandur

    Hi Feandur
    Ver.370 working fine on my M$ system:- M$ OS7U x64 SP1/ Asus P9X79 PRO , Intel i7-3960X, Asus HD7970, 16GB RipjawsX DDR3, Corsair Force-GT 120GB SSD/ 6Gbs + Crucial M4 250GB SSD/ 6Gbs.

Just C:/ in shadow Mode, with No Page or Hibernation files, and indexing not running [all file excluded].

I allow it 6Gb Ram of my ram for SD cache writing.

You can pay with PayPal, which should be safe.

PS: As you say it will be using a HDD, I would advise you make sure you have defrag is turned off [no schedule defrag], and run it manually when not in SD.

    Take Care

    Feandur,

Your system config is very similar to one of our 3 PCs. We have been running the latest version (build 370) on each PC, without any issues. I have been exercising it quite a bit and it is performing flawlessly. :thumb:

When you first run the program (Shadow Mode) it will default to using 0MB of RAM which means it is just using disk for buffering (just as the older versions did).

Fwiw, I bought our last SD license from the 'new' website and the transaction was problem-free (my original license is a few years old and I received my 2nd license as a gift).

Go for it - the software is great (and Tony is back)!!! :D

I'm thinking of using this software.
IS there any performance decrease of it installed in the machine (not in the shadow mode) in application or games at all?

    thanks.

No performance decrease in non-shadow mode on all my comps. I just untick "Start with Windows" in "Administration" so not to have idle resident SD.

Same here ...but it's a good idea to check your Startup entries and disable the SD Daemon - which is usually enabled by default during SD installation! ;)

Shadow Defender doesn't see and doesn't manage the 100 MB hidden boot partion of the Windows 7/8 installations. Some other programs, like "Try and Decide" from the buggy and annoying Acronis TruImage recognizes and manages those hidden partitions. I'm afraid that some rootkits, malwares can infect that non-shadowed hidden partition even though partition C is in shadow mode.

I think SD only "sees" the partitions, "drives", etc., that have a letter assigned and are therefore shown in Windows Explorer.

Thank You. I've made a test, and yes, it's true: SD manages it if I assign a letter greater than B to that partition.

It is true that SD doesn't see the system (reserved) partition and therefore cannot place it into Shadow Mode. By the same reasoning, it's not likely that malware can see/access this partition (unless you assign a drive letter to it). Albeit possible, I've have never heard of any such infection.

Be aware that the 100MB - 200MB system reserved partition is only necessary for installing Bitlocker (even if you have no plans to use it). So unless you really need Bitlocker you would be better off without the reserved partition, not only for the reason already cited, but by eliminating this partition making a complete image backup of your system becomes more straight forward.

If you are interested in eliminating the system reserved partition here is the procedure I used to do just that. :thumb:
