I use Norton Antivirus as my main antivirus. For second confirmations, weekly I do scans with Malwarebytes

About every other month, I do a scan with Trend Micro's Housecall: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Also about every other month, I use Avira's bootable ISO: http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-antivir-rescue-system

Are there any other good on demand scanners? (I want ones that do not fully install programs, either a bootable DVD/CD like Avira's or one time run like Trend Micro's or completely browser based ones are what I am seeking.)

    Thanks for any help/recommendations.

Dr. Web has some free AV scanners that also can delete malware. - I liked that CureIt didn't find anything, so no false positives! :D - (But you have to agree that some statistics are sent to them IIRC).

Definitely second Hitman Pro... only don't use the Early Warning Score (EWS) scan unless you're an expert on malware.

Thanks for the replies but I am looking for something either from a bootable disk or browser scanner or a non-installation like Trend Micro's. Nothing that atcually installs on your O/S.

From searching just now, I guess all the major providers have free rescue images. From what I found so far, only Avira dates theirs but I assume that all of them only post their most up-to-date images to download.

Dr. Web HAS (IMHO) some free things that are not installed but for USB/CD use. - I just didn't test them but instead CureIt. - And that hasn't to be installed either IIRC, you have to execute it of course. :)

HitmanPro is a single executable, it gives the option to not install and you can use it as a portable tool.

The linked Kaspersky tool doesn't install anything permanently, the moment you close it, it wipes off the remnants leaving only a text log AFAIK.

Thanks i will try those two too.

Hitman Pro just finds things - you have to pay to remove?

I think there is a once off trial per computer that you can use free for a few days but essentially yes you would pay to remove malware using HMP. It is good at scanning as it utilizes multiple AV signatures.

At work I use HMP as it is fast and effective. If there is malware on any given computer I'd use a boot disk scanner to remove it.

I believe that HitMan Pro is really good. What you can do is use the free version for the scan and then if you find a bunch of malware, run it again and activate the trial period. Being in the trial period it will remove the malware.

Mrizos YouTube channel has a recent video on it. I've always respected Matt's opinion.

Concerning the OP AFAIK the only good non-installation on-demand scanner is Emsisoft Emergency Kit :thumb:.

Wow that is a perfect list.

What website is that? Is that a temporary personal site that will go away or is it safe to refer back to it in future?

I am looking for an installed or not-installed single file on demand scanner. Basically testing no-AV on a machine, with on-demand scanning of each download. But do not want a suite, or anything on-access, etc.

    Any advice?

You are overprotecting - you do not need to scan with anything else.

Dr Web or Kaspersky rescue disc. Both are very good.

    Free eScanAV Anti-Virus Toolkit (MWAV)

No need to install. Just download and run the eScanAV Anti-Virus Toolkit (MWAV) to scan for viruses.
    -----------------------------
eScan Anti Virus & Spyware Toolkit Utility as an on demand scanner

This tool contains escan engine and signatures and offers scan and clean. But like Eset Online Scanner you have to choose before scanning whether you would like to clean found threats or not. But as eScan has frequent FPs, it is not recommended.
