Are there any extended trial promotions for F-Secure going on at the moment?

If there was any deals going on I'd probably get a new license since I didn't have any issues with F-Secure IS in the past.

Since F-Secure Internet Security 2013 uses the Windows Firewall, are there any reasons why it would be worth paying extra for it over the standalone anti-virus version?

You get protection against unwanted mobile broadband bills lol :p

I think the main reason is that the firewall is good at what it does. They use their own 'DeepGuard' technology.

I really doubt pc mag. has a clue. Most of the real av test sites show F-Secure is a very capable solution. I am pretty sure the outbound is covered under deepguard and there network protection.

    Decided to renew my license.

Received a 20% renewal discount for 24 months so it was at least partially cheaper.

It is only negative about bypassing the firewall by disabling the service, the rest is quite positive:

Are new subscriptions added to your current remaining days?

    Is outbound control really needed.
A firewalls main purpose is to stop malicious inbound connections and if non-legit outbound connections are being made then its the av and other protections that need looking at and not the firewall.
So outbound control is rather unneeded in my opinion on a clean computer.

It has been argued that outbound control alerted people to malware on their system. Systems that were thought to be clean.

FWIW, I received an answer from a support engineer saying that "yes", new subscription periods are added to your remaining days as long as the new key is entered and validated from within the program settings (without uninstalling the trial). Additionally, if I plan to upgrade to IS, it can be made directly from the AV without uninstalling it by just entering the IS key and installing the new components :thumb:

Agreed. Only wierd thing i found was they don't put their logo and name on security warning box alerts. My wife shouted me through when we had F-Secure installed on home PC, she thought she had a fake AV as it just said 'Computer Security' on the warning box. Actually it was F-Secure notification but wasn't clear at first as no branding name used - is that still the same? Might reinstall and play about for a minute see if i can bring the warning box up - eicar would do the trick.

I haven't tried it yet but I expect it to be equally great as the other apps they have :thumb:

That's correct, F-Secure 2013 features have been divided into three "start" tabs from the desktop, being 'Computer Security' the one that groups the realtime protection shield.
By the way, you might want to sign up to try the new FSIS 2014 Beta, a "totally stable" version at the moment if you ask me ;)
Check out some screenshots and latest changelog here.

I paid $66.99 for a two year Anti-Virus license for three machines about six weeks ago. Works great and very light.
