    Hi,

Is there a way to install windows 98 in windows 7 pro virtual PC?

XP mode install itself directly in it but I don't see a way to add a new machine with an other OS...

    Thanks,

There is a potential 2nd option and thats to use the free VMware vCenter Converter to virtualize your current Win 98 PC and then use the also free VMware Player to run it. The process is quite painless. I do not have a link to an article detailing the process for 98 but do have one for XP. The procedure would be effectively the same I would expect. The nice thing about doing it this way is you do not need to set up a new 98 installation and then load programs and data to it. Its all there at the get go.

    Here is the link

    I hope this helps

I actually tried to import some Virtual PC images over to VMWare a couple of days ago and Windows 9x is not supported, so I'm not sure if it would virtualize an actual PC with a 9x OS. It refused to import Windows 3.1, 95, 98, or ME. It did import NT 4.0, 2000, and XP. Unfortunately, the only one that would even boot was XP, and the activation was broken so I did not proceed with it.

If I were running Windows 7 I would just remove the Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode, and replace it with Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 and use that. Then you can run as a guest any version of Windows from 3.1 through Vista.

Since both programs are free there is a simple and cost free way to find out if it will or will not work,,,,,,,just try it. I went P2V on an XP system that had 25 gigs of used space and it took under 1/2 hour to do the virtualization. I have not had a chance to try launching it on a W7 system as my new W7 PC is not feeling at all well and after 3 days of fighting with it I think it needs to see a specialist.

As to the supported or not issue a quick trip over to VMwares website and a visit to the specific programs specs would also reveal if Convert can virtualize a W98 PC and if Player can run it.
