Are you using it? Can you comment on client performance? Any significant differences compared to Google Drive, SkyDrive, et al?

Eeeeeew. The most visible download option requires flash plugin :gack:
    But 50GB is really nice.

I am using Box for more than a year.
The free account is for back-up only - no sync between computers.
AFAIK Box & A-Drive are the only two services offering 50 GB back-up.
I also use the Box app in my Android phone which allows upload & download.
Folder upload requires Java, but files can be uploaded without it.
    File sharing is possible.
The user interface is easy, simple & in my opinion less cluttered than Google Drive & Sky Drive. There is nothing to install in the computer. I upload everything via browser interface,
Probably music & video streaming are not possible. Never wanted them.
I store all my music files & photos in Box. However I have a small collection of Word & PDF files as well as Books which I keep in sync between my desktop, laptop & phone........ using Dropbox.

In the above case the Box is useless, if there is no sync between computers.

I'm using box for 3months so far. I recommend it as a dropbox/sugarsync alternative.
It HAS a desktop client to synchronize files (you don't need to upload it only via browser!)
It offers more control over file / folder permission than drop/sugar
and what for me it's no. 1 feature is a webdav support (I synchronize my Zotero library using box webdav)

I think with the new MEGA service offering 50GB free and now this one also, many cloud storage providers will increase their free quota to keep customers...

rapidshare already provide unlimited storage & file size for free user & no deletion of files ever as long as you login once in 90 days when using free account.only limitation is you can only download 1gb per day using your own account login but with pro account unlimited self download & 50gb daily cap for other users.

Can I activate sync on my account?

If you see a Box Sync as an option on your Settings page, it has already been rolled out to your account. We have rolled out Box Sync to our business and enterprise customers. And because we believe that connecting the desktop to cloud content management is core to the Box platform, we'll also be making a modified version available to Lite and Individual users.

May be I have overlooked something, but still can't understand how to sync files between multiple computers using box. And when I clicked box sync option in my account settings page they gave me a page showing pricing list. Any help will be highly appreciated.

This is great. I just needed something for my music collection backup as my drive is dying. (literally makes crying sound) Don't need sync.

    Dear Century,

Download the Application (Program) and install it on each computer you want to sync. It is not as good as Dropbox, but it gives you 50GB for Free instead of 2.5GB Free for Dropbox.

    Best regards,

What aladdin says. You don't need to change anything in your account. Just install the app and log in to your account from its GUI. Everything you put inside your 'Box' folder in your computer will be uploaded to Box. Then, when you log in from another computer with Box Sync installed you will be able to sync your 'Box' folder there with what has been uploaded to your Box account.

Why are all these companies giving out huge amounts of cloud strorage space? How can they earn money doing that?

I understand the dropbox, microsoft and google approach of giving several gigabytes of free space, and then if you like the service and need more, you can pay for more, but 50 GB for free?

That said, I'll probably sign up for it in case I end up needing it in the future...

ok, i created an account (two actually, one business, one personal) and took their six step tutorial. i cannot say how well this would work in practice or how secure it is since I only just tried it quickly, but I have to say it looks very impressive.

they have lots of apps for iOS, Android, Desktop/Windows and other stuff, and it's designed so that (business) people can collaborate on projects, for example, you can invite people to use a folder in your box and comment on files/documents, etc. For some features, for example to get FTP Server support or to place certain restrictions on collaborating users, you need to upgrade your account so I guess that's where the money comes in. I like it.

Thanks to Aladdin & Vojta for instructions. Since I use Box for back-up only I never attempted to see if it will sync files too. This is the problem of being a clumsy old fool - I am 57 plus. I shall do as you said. I like Box & if it can work similar to Dropbox it will be nice for me. Thank you again.
