Using ESS 6 here under Windows 7 Pro. I noticed in the ESET What's New in version 6 page that there's a Facebook App called "ESET Social Media Scanner." I headed over to Facebook, and installed. When I click on "Run Profile Scan" it ruminates for anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes and eventually says in red letters "Error performing scan." I've tried this in Firefox and Chrome under Windows 7 with the same results. How can I figure out what the error is?

    See attached screen shot.

    Hello Oswald2

Just outta curiosity , I downloaded firefox version 18.01 without any plugins, and the Eset Social Scanner performed as it should. Personally I use IE 10 with activex enabled, and in enhanced protection mode, no toolbars and so on, and also in this case the social scanner worked as it should. (maybe just lucky). That makes me think of, can it be an add-ons/extension to the browser, that block the functionality of the social scanner. Maybe a long shot, but that was my first thought.

    Regards, Janus

That was a good idea; so I did it in Firefox with add-ons disabled and got the same results. I don't think I have any in Chrome.

    Hello

Just one more idea before my bedtime :D , on this longitude, ....you can always try to uninstall the app, (the social media scanner), then close the browser and reboot the system before trying once more, hopefully with better luck this time. Link: How do I remove or delete an app from my account? (if you need it)

    Regards, Janus

    Hello,

Please try clearing your web browser's cache and cookies, then running the ESET Social Media Scanner. Does that solve the problem?

    Regards,

I don't know why it worked, but I tried Janus' trick of removing the FB app, rebooting my computer (o_O) and re-adding the app to Facebook. That made it work for some reason. Not sure why the cache would affect both browsers, but something was surely weird.

Some thoughts from myself and others than have tried running ESET Social Media Scanner or, ESMS.

Ad blocking software such as the very popular Ad Block plus with a combination of elevated Facebook privacy settings may be the issue.

    Regards,

Glad to have been of some assistance.

Those that are experiencing significant issues with the social media (Facebook) scanner could disable the functionality while some of the early bugs that are evident here and in other threads are resolved.
