ECLS Command-line scanner: how make it portable, how use...

I'm looking for detailed info on how correctly use ECLS Command-line scanner.

a. It can be downloaded separately?

b. Can be made portable? What additional files it does require? It would run on a WinPE XP environment?

c. Is possible to write a wget script to automate the download of updated definitions for it?

Today I'm using Avira ScanCL like this, but I really would like to replace it with ECLS.

 

No. ESET Command line scanner is just on-demand scanner and is integrated into ESET products (home and business).

If you need to use it, you need ESET product installed or just the files of ECLS.

For other uses - you can install trial version of ESET/NOD32 product or try the ESET Online scanner - download and install free from here:
http://download.eset.com/special/eos/esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe

All you need is the ecmd exe file and the .nup files you can find in the NOD32/ESS folder in %ProgramFiles%

You can copy them and run the ecls.exe on any machine to perform a scan. For example - run it with /auto parameter.

I'm not sure. But the definitions of ESET product are updated via the ESET kernel ekrn.exe , which is not with ECLS. You need a full product to update the program or you can update it with the Online Scanner. ECLS cannot auto-update itself.

 

As it's been said, you can either use the ESET Online Scanner or take ecls.exe as well as all *.dat files from the ESET install folder and transfer them to another computer that you want to scan.
