Linux installation fails

I tried to install ueaveb.i386.en.linux on the latest version of Ubuntu. The installation failed because it couldn't find

/usr/lib/gconv/UTS-16.so

The file does exist but in

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gconv/

Have you tried following the steps outlined in ESET Knowledgebase Article #2733, I receive the error message "Please install the following files or packages: /usr/lib/gconv/UTF-16.so" when installing ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux Desktop?" If so, did that make any difference?

I copied, rather than retyped

sudo ln -s `sudo find / | grep UTF-16.so` /usr/lib/gconv/UTF-16.so

and this resulted in the error

`/usr/lib/gconv/UTF-16.so' is not a directory

I think there might be an error in how the knowledgebase's web server parses and displays the quotation marks. If you manually key it in does that make any difference?

I think you are right. I manually keyed what I saw in the knowledge base article and got the same error.

In that case, you might want to give ESET's technical support engineers a call at +1 (866) 343-3738 and check with them--it could be that they have updated information on how to install the software on the latest Linux distributions.

I actually got past that point by changing the trailing ` to a ' and was able to complete the installation successfully. Besides, the time difference between eastern Australia and California is such that I am unlikely to be in my office at the same time as ESET's technical support engineers are working.

Obviously the knowledge base article needs to be corrected [and tested] by your support guys. It has been a long time since I last ran a Linux box and my current grasp of command formats is quite vague. There might be a different solution which is superior.

I did confirm that the backtick ` is correct as indicated in the Knowledgebase article and it was successfully tested on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. What version is your Linux distro? Maybe this command functions differently on your particular distro and if we can replicate that, we can add that information to the Knowledgebase article for other users.

I installed Ubuntu from the 12.10 ISO that I downloaded last November. There have been a number of online updates since I first installed it.
