Earlier today my wife's and my laptop computers each received Eset invitations to install NOD32 v5.2.15. When I went to download its installation .msi file of about 60MB, I discovered that I would be downloading an installer .exe file of approximately 3mb. (I didn't download it, so its size is a recollection and not a precise fact.) I tried to find a full installation .msi file at Eset, but was able only to find the installer .exe file.

A Google search for "NOD32 5.2.15" (without the quotes) gave me a lot of third party sources for the full installation .msi file. For example, it was available at FileHippo.com.

I've been using NOD32 ever since v2.x, and I don't think I've ever before had to download a full installation file from a third party; my recollection is that I always was able to get it from Eset, because I have more confidence getting security software there.

    TWO QUESTIONS:

    1) If anyone knows of an Eset site from which I could download the full installation file for NOD32 v5.2.15, please let me know.

    2) If anyone reading this knows why Eset apparently is offering its Home customers only an installer .exe file (which I assume will have to download a full installation file as part of the installation process) and not a full installation .msi file, please let me know.

One possible answer to my question 2) might be that the NOD32 5.2.15 installer automatically first uninstalls any preceding NOD32 version, before installing v5.2.15. If that is necessary (my recollection is that previous "two decimal" upgrades haven't required that), I'd like to know why.

In any case, if uninstalling v5.2.9.1 before installing 5.2.15 is necessary, I would be willing to do that if I could use a 5.2.15 full installation .msi file, preferably from Eset.

    P.S. BACKGROUND

My wife and I are currently using Eset NOD32 v5.2.9.1. (We have four licenses, for two WinXPsp3 laptops currently in use, one WinXPsp3 laptop rarely used, and another more advanced laptop that will be using Win7 when I finish setting it up.)

In the past, to install a new version of NOD32, I am fairly sure that I have always downloaded an installation file from Eset. For NOD32 v5.2.9.1, the installation file that I have is a .msi file of 49,542kb. I think that installing a NOD32 version on two, three, or four computers will go faster if I download a full installation .msi file to one computer and then copy it to the other computers via our Local Area Network.

And I like to have the full installation file in case the need arises to uninstall NOD32 and re-install it, and I don't want to have to download the installation file again. (Using an installer .exe file requires the internet, and my internet connection might be fouled up.)

The above given link is for Smart Security but the path would be very similar for NOD32 Antivirus.

The Live installer is generally used because it takes up less space and is more user-friendly for most users. Previous versions are available on the download page for each product but we do provide the Offline Installer for just the purpose you stated: if you need to reinstall but are unable to connect to the internet to do so or if the Live Installer fails for any reason.

    Hello,

    In response to your questions:
    1. The following are direct download locations for the English-language versions of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5:
    2. The live installers replaced the full package downloads for several reasons, but the driving factor was complaints about it being too difficult for users to determine whether they had a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows, which language they had and so forth.

The ESET Live Installer solves this by detecting whether a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows is present as well as the language type (English, French, Spanish and so forth), then it automatically downloads and installs the correct version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus (or ESET Smart Security) for that system.
For Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition with Service Pack 3, you would want to install the 32-bit version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus, not the 64-bit edition.

    No Idea:

    1) That's a neat online name! Maybe I will change mine to "Haven't Got A Clue."

    2) Today I finally got time to download NOD32 5.2.15. Thanks for the link. I modified it a bit by deleting the ? and replacing the 5 with the current version number, 5.2.15.1, but I ended up doing my download of the offline installer from an ESET knowledge base site:
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2885,
because it apparently can be a source for future NOD32 offline downloads.

Thanks again for that link, which was a great comfort. When I couldn't find an offline installer, I had feared that offline installers were a dead phenomenon.

And a belated Happy New Year to you too!

Thanks very much for the information. I went to the link you provided,
    http://www.eset.com/us/download/home/detail/family/2/#offline
and at that location I selected Offline Installer, and then clicked on ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 (5.2.15.2), which took me to
    http://www.eset.com/us/download/home/detail/family/2/fileflag/5.2.15.2/

After selecting the operating system list that included WinXP, and English, I was at
    http://www.eset.com/us/download/hom...ag/5.2.15.2/operatingsystem/119/language/ENU/
But underneath the Download button, some rather dim text says (without the quotes):
    "Version: 5.2.15.0, Size: 60.4 MB
    "File name: eav_nt32_enu.msi"
That was a bit disconcerting, because elsewhere on Wilders or at Eset.com I had seen that the current version is v5.2.15.2 (but maybe not for WinXP?).

In any case, the eav_nt32_enu.msi files that I downloaded from the Knowledgebase site (see my preceding message to No Idea) and from the site you recommended both had the same size in bytes: 60.3 MB (63,332,352 bytes), so I'll assume that their contents are identical, and that they are the same current version: 5.2.15.2. But I can't be absolutely sure of that, because right clicking on either of them and selecting properties does not give a version number.

Thanks again for the information, and for the link to an Eset.com website that provides both Live and Offline Installers.

    Aryeh Goretsky:

Thanks for the links. But when I used the first one (for my WinXPsp3 32bit laptops), I got version 6.0.308 instead of the latest v5.x that I had expected. I'm guessing that's because you wrote your message on 4 January, before NOD32 version 6 was released. (This January has sidetracked my normal activities, such as replying to your message, by several house projects, including relocating an outside mounted internet DSL "splitter" --- which had been located telephone pole high almost to the roof of my two-story house, where only a star basketball player could access it, from a porch on an adjacent wall --- down to ground level, where it could be repaired or replaced without fear of falling off a ladder supported only by sand. The splitter's original location made some sense when our neighborhood had telephone poles, but no sense when landline phone lines were undergrounded.)

In any case, I will wait awhile before moving from NOD32 Antivirus 5.x to 6.x.

I was astonished that a significant number of Eset's customers wouldn't know whether their operating system was 32-bit or 64-bit.

Somewhere on Eset's Wilder forum I read the following:
    "Changes in 5.2.15:
"Enhancement: Added detection of Windows 8 Metro interface to gamer mode
"Enhancement: Added support of Windows 8 Metro applications to firewall
"Fix: Windows Store doesn't work with SSL scanning"

Even though my wife's and my laptops are nowhere short of hard disk space (in either C: or D: partitions), I'm hoping that not only a Live Installer that I am not using, but also the Offline Installer that I have downloaded and will use, will avoid cluttering up our WinXPsp3 laptops by installing Windows 8 enhancements!
But although I use MS Internet Explorer 8 only for Microsoft Updates, it will be good to know that the Windows Store (which may or may not not work on our Mozilla-SeaMonkey browsers) will be available.

Thanks for your interesting response to this thread.

    Hello,

The links I gave you are static ones which point to the latest version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus. At the time I wrote that, it was 5.2.15.x (the last digit is used mostly for tracking localizations and can be ignored), but since then, ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 has been released, so those links now point to it.

Here are the now current links for the older ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5.2.15:

    32-bit - http://download.eset.com/download/win/v5eav/eav_nt32_enu.msi
    64-bit - http://download.eset.com/download/win/v5eav/eav_nt64_enu.msi

That's what I thought, but you put it more concisely and more precisely. Thanks.

Thanks also for the information about the last digit, and for the "Windows Installer Package (60.4 MB)" links to 5.2.15.
