I'm with you on this. I certainly don't find Chrome noticeably any faster than Opera or Firefox. They all seem to be about the same on my systems. Opera x64 seems the snappiest. On my x86 machines I don't see any differences between the browsers.

Do not care who is the fastest. My browser of choice is fast enough for me, that is all that counts.

Easy way to test is to install page-load-timers on each product. Once you do, you will understand that some products have double, even triple the load times of Chromium. It may not seem like much with a stopwatch attempting to test it, but fractions of a second ad up to a lot of time. For example Admuncher has shaved 2 hours off my load times since January 2nd. That starts to really add up. Now factor the productivity loss with Firefox or Opera, and you start to run into many hours in some cases, over time of course.

What we need to realize is, nobody is ever convinced of anything they don't want to believe. Trying, even in the face of a lot of evidence is simply a waste of time and energy. I gave up a long time ago trying to convince people of this or that, I just let people be people. You can pound your fists against wall, argue, show the facts, demonstrate, but they believe what they want to believe, and nothing will change it until they are ready to believe something else. So posting all of the benchmarks in the world, they'll still show up and claim differently. Just walk away, don't spoil their dreams.

I use a mobile broadband modem so i wont have the greatest of internet connections. In my case it would be very unfair to judge my browser.(comodo dragon).
If i were on a fibre optic landline connection then i would get a better idea how fast a browser is but as i said i cant at the moment with the connection im using at the moment as signal strength varies.
On the whole my browser is quick enough for me even on mobile broadband.

I believe what's in front of my eyes.

I dunno about that squire, you certainly seem to have a bit of a tendentious agenda when discussing Chrome/Chromium in comparison with Opera.

I'm not pounding anything. I am just stating that on three separate computers I am not seeing any real differences in page loading times between Opera, Firefox & Chrome. It's not spoiling any dreams of mine.

That could be because yes, some people are just fans, but also because benchmarks aren't everything. They don't account for sh***y site design, they don't account for site timeouts and congestion, they don't account for add-ons/plugins, they don't account for hardware differences. They account for very little except Javascript speed. But, as you say, some people are just going to believe what they will, and some just can't see the forest for the Javascript trees. Your argument can be turned around on you. For someone who supposedly doesn't care, you're very busy taking a poop on anything not Chromium in several threads and knocking down others who just happen to be seeing different results. I promise you, it's okay for others to see different results. The people saying so aren't imbeciles, and their systems are just fine, even if Chrome isn't speeding along on them. Let people be people, walk away. :)

Couldn't agree more. Chrome leaves all browsers in the dust when it comes to speed which is the most important for me. I could care less about extensions if my browser is slow as a turtle.

Are these browsers that fast because they are on a high speed internet connection?
On mobile broadband they may vary.:ninja:

    yes,

i found in my own tests that Chrome was slightly faster on my machine.

but i am not using it because speed alone is not a decisive factor for me.

i do recommend Chrome to other people though because of it's speed and security.
Chrome's sandbox is pretty good at keeping people safe.

I have to agree with the Chrome fans, it's by far the quickest. I just tried Opera x64 again and used it all last night, but for some reason it's sluggish and slow on my system, and I honestly don't know why. And my system is clean and new, so there's nothing messing with it.... Just proves to me that each person's system is different...

Feature wise, and layout, I love Opera. It's drop dead sexy.

But the speed kills me, and I have tried every possible tweak to make it faster, even using the USB version and dumping it 100% into ram, it's just not fast enough. I think Opera really needs to step back on feature additions and other things, and focus exclusively on speed for a few months, possibly a whole year. If necessary dumping fragments of code to accomplish it.

On slow connections, Opera is probably faster (with Opera Turbo enabled). No other browser that I know has something like Opera Turbo. http://www.opera.com/browser/turbo/

I don't get this focus on browser speed? In my experience they all open regular web pages quickly and perform well in terms of speed for general web browsing - at least if you have a fast connection.

For me the user interface, availability of add-ons I like, and overall compatibility with other software are the main deciding factors.

Some off topic posts removed. Personal comments are not necessary when discussing browser speed.

I tend to agree. It does appear that quite a few Opera 12 users are finding it sluggish on their systems though. I have no explanation for this. Opera 12.12 x64 is like a rocket on my desktop PC. There isn't much between any of them, to be honest though, in my experience.

I'd love to find out why.. 5 PC's here, Windows7 Ultimate, Opera is as slow as slow can get.. I have been unable to make it faster, regardless of tweaks, even running it entirely in RAM including the cache..

I want it to be faster - more than you can imagine.

It was very fast not too long ago... prior to v12 I guess. I remember that much. But I'm with you on v12 now, it's slow. I don't try to figure it, I just use what works best for me....

It is a bit of an enigma. I'm even finding Opera x86 pretty fast on my Vista notebook. I am using Home Premium on both Win 7 & Vista though. Maybe it is slow on Windows Ultimate predominantly. Just a thought.

Maybe we all just have our own personal definitions of fast, lol.

Yeah, I reckon that's it. If I have enough time to make a cup of tea while I'm waiting for a page to load, I reckon that's pretty slow. Anything faster than that has to be good. ;) LOL

Opera forums are full of people saying 12X is slow. So it may be a issue with the program and some OS's or something, or a general issue with the code itself. Let's hope they address it, because I distinctly remember 11.50 being 'speedy', and in fact I regressed back to it, and found it snappy.

As long as I can remember there has always been a huge amount of whinging on the Opera forums. I am not denying that many are having a speed problem, but I wonder what the actual percentage is that is experiencing this slowdown? I guess I'm lucky in one respect because I haven't had this problem on any of my computers.

They're probably looking into it. Unfortunately Opera ASA have a history of not really fixing certain bugs. For years favicons have disappeared with no explanation from its bookmarking tool bar. I gave up on that bar years ago.

I wonder.. Are you using the 32bit or 64bit version of opera? I am using the 64 bit.
