Some of the updates during 2012 required uninstall of the previous version and some didn't. For example:

    "RELEASE NOTES - 7.0.26.6, posted 3/11/2012
    - Addressed Advanced Reports "Invalid pointer" and missing pflog7.mdb observed on Vista and XP.
    - To install this update from builds 26.3-26.5, exit Privatefirewall (from the tray icon) and run the executable (custom settings will be preserved).
    - To install this update from build 25.5 (or earlier), export custom settings, uninstall and reboot system before installing the 26.6 build."

Now it seems that uninstall is always mandatory.

Is there a way to operate PrivateFirewall to automatically block connections not specified in the Applications rule? (I want it to work with no prompts at all, just block all not specified in the rules, I'm only using the firewall part and not the hips part)

    Hey Joe!
Just Download the new version and follow this:

    GENERAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
Please uninstall the existing version of Privatefirewall (via Add/Remove programs or Start -> All Programs -> Privatefirewall 7.0 -> Uninstall...) and reboot system before installing an update. Process Monitor and Firewall settings can be preserved by exporting (File -> Export Settings) before uninstalling, and importing (File -> Import Settings) after installing updates. We also advise temporarily disabling any antivirus or other active anti-malware or HIPS software until the Privatefirewall installation process has completed.

May take a while for it to be updated on servers.
Hopefully not long for you to wait :)

Call me old fashion guy,but i would like my security software to "tell" me when there are updates, not to find out about them on forums...Just a thought. Anyway, yep, already uninstalled and installed the new version.

I started to use a free VPN program,RiccoVPN (homepage here hxxp://privacyprotector.eu/en/).All sweet but the problem is that its drivers interfere with Privatefirewall's.If i install Ricco when PVTFW is already installed, its driver could not load and the program is crippled.(and its already in the PVTFW's trusted list). If i install Ricco first and try to install PVTFW after,Privatefirewall's driver won't install at all.And this happens only with PVTFW.Any ideas what i should do?
    NB.Opened a support ticket.
    NB2.Problem resolved.Thank you Greg!

    Hi vojta :)

Yes you should uninstall before upgrading. I think this is what you are looking for?

    http://www.privacyware.com/PF_support.html

Don't forget to export settings before you uninstall, if that is what you choose to do.

    Hope that helps :)

    Jim

Edit: My apologies vojta, I see you were already helped. I must have missed the response. Thank you abu :)

For some peculiar reason this firewall never seemed to want to co-operate with my computer.
The developer who was an extremely helpful person tried to assist but my computer will not have it.
    And so the story goes.........:ouch:

I switched from Privatefirewall to ZoneAlarm because PF doesn't pass Shields up. ZA does pass.

    Hi

My windows 7 64bit with PF 7.0.29.1 passes all Shields Up tests. Did it a couple of days ago?
