    Salut,

For people who are testing many firewalls or antivirus, it is important to know that a simple uninstall is not enough, go into the registry and clean all the keys, even the legacy..., especially with Zonealarm.

If not even a healthy firewall as Privatefirewall may conflict to the level of the drivers.

I'm thinking others will agree that the Revo Uninstaller is right there at the top as far as a good uninstaller goes.. :)

    Thanks..

even on a clean machine PF freeze the whole machine after install.
and i'm not the only one, many people seems to have the same problem if you read online reviews of PF.

i tried it a few years ago and it was the same problem.

I attempted for the third time to install and it installed just fine.Admittedly it froze but only for a minute or two and then it worked just fine.I dont know why my previous attempts failed but i succeeded this time.Only thing that concerned was the shields up test which revealed i had two open ports.i dont know the correct configuration.so for now ive imaged this and shall look into how to configure this properly.:thumb:

    Salut,

    (google traduction...)

Do not use so-called 'facilitators' tool.

Clean the registry by hand, if it is known to do.

Do not combine protection tools, 1 antivirus + 1 firewall, nothing else, behavioral antivirus software with Blocker can conflict with a firewall which also has a behavioral Blocker ("HIPS", "IDS"...).

Parental control of WLM can interfere with, some also Nvidia network options.

Type sfc /scannow in the command prompt and then entered.

    Hello,

All sure is quiet on the privacyware front. Has anyone heard anything about the "coming" version to fully support Windows 8 Pro x64? Is anyone currently using the current version on Windows 8 Pro x64? I have heard PF cause a lot of problems on this OS so am hesitant to give it a try. Anyone running this setup or now of the status of a new compatible release, information would be much appreciated...

I received an email from Greg Salvato a week ago in response to my query and he expects release by the end of January.

PrivateFirewall users: Mind sharing your rules in svchost.exe for Windows Update? :D, I'm new at using PF so I would really appreciate a few hardening tips.

    Hi cronogr :)

I have used PF in the past, and in my opinion, it is one of the best without the bloat. I had issues with it when I was learning how to use it. One thing I learned that really helped deal with some issues was to place it in "training mode" even if it is for a day, so it learns your system, etc. it is not a risk, as PF keeps doing its job, but to some they may not like to place it in this mode, but it does assist in solving some connectivity issues.

Overall, I think PF is an excellent firewall, much easier to navigate and work with than the big monsters out there. At the moment, I am using Win7 firewall which works, but I always liked PF. I have it on my wife's tower, no AV, and her tower is certainly more responsive and a lot less problems than having to deal with AV issues. I have had her set up with this for several months, so far working nice and quiet. :)

    Jim

I upgraded PF to the new version on three of my Win7 x64 systems. I am happy to report continued normal functioning of PF afterwards... :thumb:

Gui has not changed. It's a free program, and a darned good one,so I wont waste any energy complaining about the ugly GUI.Program works. That's all I care about.Kudos to Greg and his team for getting this to work smoothly with Windows 8.Was worth the wait for me.

I'm ok with the GUI, it's clear and does the job. That's 99.9% of what a GUI must accomplish.

Does anyone know if it is necessary to uninstall the previous version this time? I can't find a changelog or the installation instructions in their site.
