    Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue..

I use putty, filezilla and IVT Telnet to connect to some of my LAN devices.
With the Windows 8 firewall enabled the connection can take up to 30 seconds. It does connect but its very slow doing so.

If I disable the firewall the connection is instant.

I have tried adding IVT as an exception but that hasn't helped.

Anyone any ideas how to solve this ?
    Thanks

You didn't state if outbound connections are blocked.

If you have outbound connections blocked, I would recommend one of the front ends.

I use Windows Firewall Notifier (WFN) but there is also Windows Firewall Control (WFC) and a few others.

    Hi
Connections are not blocked just very slow.
It's as if it's waiting for a DNS time out and then proceeding.

DNS is working fine and I've not noticed any other issues.

As a test I've installed ZoneAlarm and now the connections are working fine.
for now I'll leave ZoneAlarm on and Windows Firewall off and see how things go.

When I have some more time I try this again...
UNLESS some one knows how to get it working :)

Some connections are getting blocked. If you disable the firewall and it all works well, there is something getting blocked somewhere.

I agree but I can't work out what it is.

It's also strange that after 10 - 20 seconds it connects.
Some thing is trying to connect, then times out and it works.

    You might enable logging.

Run gpedit.msc, and navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Right click on Windows Firewall with Advanced Security - Local Group Policy Object and select Properties. You can then click the Customize button under Logging and enable logging on the Private and/or Public Profile tabs.
