Hi I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue.. I use putty, filezilla and IVT Telnet to connect to some of my LAN devices. With the Windows 8 firewall enabled the connection can take up to 30 seconds. It does connect but its very slow doing so. If I disable the firewall the connection is instant. I have tried adding IVT as an exception but that hasn't helped. Anyone any ideas how to solve this ? Thanks
You didn't state if outbound connections are blocked. If you have outbound connections blocked, I would recommend one of the front ends. I use Windows Firewall Notifier (WFN) but there is also Windows Firewall Control (WFC) and a few others.
Hi Connections are not blocked just very slow. It's as if it's waiting for a DNS time out and then proceeding. DNS is working fine and I've not noticed any other issues. As a test I've installed ZoneAlarm and now the connections are working fine. for now I'll leave ZoneAlarm on and Windows Firewall off and see how things go. When I have some more time I try this again... UNLESS some one knows how to get it working
Some connections are getting blocked. If you disable the firewall and it all works well, there is something getting blocked somewhere.
I agree but I can't work out what it is. It's also strange that after 10 - 20 seconds it connects. Some thing is trying to connect, then times out and it works.
You might enable logging. Run gpedit.msc, and navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Right click on Windows Firewall with Advanced Security - Local Group Policy Object and select Properties. You can then click the Customize button under Logging and enable logging on the Private and/or Public Profile tabs.
