depends on whether you want or need online armor. if you don't want OA, go with AM only. i got both, and i've found myself not using OA (win7 x64 and win8 x64) because of annoying quirks and performance issues that come and go randomly.

Sounds like I don't need OA then. Thank you.

It is a great product , works well, but it is NOT lite: it eats a lot of memory and slows the computer.

    Congratulations to emsisoft.
I can imagine the emsisoft internet security pack to be an excellent protection suite.
The firewall is an excellent piece of software.:)

I tried the latest Emsisoft on a fresh snapshot, and the results were not good. Default settings across the board.

    1) It considered RollbackRX boot loader on the MBR to be a trojan, and tried to kill it, which could actually destroy the system requiring a format. During a scheduled scan, it might actually kill it and in the process disable your system.
    2) It considered Lawlietfox a threat, and decided to have a popup every 2 seconds when I used it, and it didn't save settings when I prompted it to remember. It also considered dev versions of Chrome a threat.
    3) It slowed the system down, markedly. Chrome launches in 0.2400 average on my system, this DOUBLED that.
    4) It didn't like admuncher, and also caused admuncher to exhibit issues with blocking.

I never actually got to try to infect it because I spent so much time fighting it after installation I just gave up. Overall, I found it unusable, and most of the issues I had back when I gave up on it seem to have been present in the current incarnation. I couldn't restore my core snapshot back to BG2013 fast enough!

That's a lot of issues, Bodhitree.

I have never had a FP with EAM nor a conflict with either of my imaging apps (Macrium / Drive Snapshot) nor any browsers.

Whenever I've had an alert (usually from the behavior blocker) I just answer the pop-up and EAM has always remembered my decision.

I make use of the whitelist for any apps (security or otherwise) which I want to be excluded from EAM's supervision. Never had a problem either setting these or having the app retain those settings.

Must be a unique set of issues related to your system that is causing the problems. I've had similar experience with other security apps. Good that there are other options available.

    @Bodhitree

Were you testing Online Armor or EAM ?
Seems the thread has started knocking Online Armor instead of EAM :doubt:

It was a clean snapshot except for Admuncher running. Emsisoft is noisy, and likely not for everyone as a result. Also, it still seems to have bugs and slowdown issues. Not to derail the thread, I really wanted to give it a try as the licenses only run a few bucks these days.

NSG001 asks a good question just above as to which of the Emsisoft offerings you were testing (just for clarity's sake).

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree as I don't find any of those issues present with either EAM or OA on my system though I have had similar complaints with other security software in the past.

discussion of OA is also relevant within the context of the marketing stuff in the OP - OA is mentioned as a part of the internet security pack.

that being said, i'm also curious about which specific product Bodhitree installed because i don't think i've seen a single erroneous behavioral prompt since i've installed this latest version on either machine i'm using it on.

@Bodhitree Emsisoft support via their forums @ support.emsisoft.com would likely be able to provide some guidance if you had the time and/or desire to try and resolve the issues you had.

That is because RollbackRX is a rootkit. That being said, EAM would refuse to remove it but point you to the support forums instead.

Never heard of Lawlietfox, but I just downloaded and ran the x64 version and didn't get any complaints from EAM. I am using the development versions of Chrome myself and never saw an alert from EAM either. I would appreciate it if you could give a few more specific information. Namely which Emsisoft products you actually installed and which settings you used.

Did you ran at least one full scan so the cache kicks in?

We actually cooperate very closely with AdMuncher and perform quite a few tests internally to ensure that AdMuncher works flawlessly. May I ask what exactly the aforementioned "issues" were?

Good for them. Not that I give a damn. Even though MSE is at the bottom of the list/screenshot there, I would still pick it as an antivirus solution. If I had to make the choice, that is.

I really love Emsisoft , but its real time protection ( file guard) is very heavy on my pc.

My computer is powerful and I fell the slowdown :doubt:

    I5 2500 , 8 gb ram , fast HDD , Radeon 6870.

^Is that EAM, OA or the combined security suite?
Any other security progs? If so, properly excluded scanning each other?

I have experienced 2-3 FP's after using EAM for around 3 years and both of them were fixed within 24 hours of submitting files as false positives. :thumb:

Does anyone know why emsisoft scores mutch lower that bitdefender in the shadowserver test. If you watch the detections emsisoft is using bitdefender signatures. If you for example compare the top signatures detected files its almost the same but bitdefender detects more files as being infected with virus XXXX.

I will reinstall it on a clean snapshot when I can and retest it.

But indeed, I felt a strong slowdown, and it nearly doubled the launch times for all of my applications. This was one of the main reasons I ceased using it a couple of years ago and switched to WSA, then later Bullguard2013, both of which actually offer virtually no increase of non-AV systems in launch times, etc. But indeed - Emsisoft felt 'heavy' on my machine which is also very fast.

Quad 3.2Ghz, 8GB, 7200RPM 3gb/s drive, GTX460OC 4GB graphics. It just seemed to double the time it took to do anything. :'(

    Odd.

It doesn't double the launch times of apps on my machines (I have it on Win 8 and Win7).

Yep, can't really blame Emsisoft for heuristically flagging it. If anything, it should be praised and shows Emsisoft is good against rootkits... The only difference is that Rollback is a benign rootkit, but still a rootkit.

It would be interesting to know how
Horizon DataSys (developer of Rollback Rx)
    will respond to this...

    If they respond...
