Does this program make images for backup to CD/DVD? I don't want the image to store on the local hard drive. Thanks!

No. Having said that there are ways to do so.

SourceForge.net: Clonezilla: Saving Image to DVD directly

I don't know if this way will fit the bill for you but if all you want
    is a backup image on a CD/DVD or Blu-ray
just make a image on your hard drive and then just simply burn
it to a disk, I do my "MASTER" backup's this way

IMO, using Clonezilla with optical discs is always going to be a pain. Trying to make it work would (almost certainly) prove to be very frustrating!

My personal solution is to use Win 7 and 8's image writing program for optical disc images and Clonezilla for the better (IMO) portable hard drive method. Hard drive based images are created and restored much, much faster than with the discs. (But I know there are times the discs can be handy.)

I decided to use another program since it is less of a hassle.
