Why? Don't you believe 100% detection rate for 0-day malware? Boy, you are way too suspicious! :D :D :D

Emsisoft is a great produt. It's really light. Totally different than what it used to be some years ago. Also, they have a fair price :)

Seems most every good product has its naysayers...whether it's Emsisoft, Comodo or any other top flight company. No doubt every leader in its field of expertise ends up with a big old target on its back, deservedly or not.

Interestingly enough, most of these naysayers seem to base their comments on a combination of hearsay and their own lack of personal experience. IMHO, such comments are not worth the time it takes to read them.

On the other hand, those who actually point out specific, legitimate areas of concern provide both the vendor and the community here a service. Let's see how many of those posts show up before we rush to judgment.

You say that like it's only hype. Emsisoft always ranks at the top in tests, you want them to keep quiet about why people should buy what they are selling? I hope they continue to be successful and make good products, which from my own experience are some of the best I've run.

edit: I wasn't aware of the VB100 tests that itman points out below, sorry Securon my response here might have been overly strong.

VB100 which appears to be the only mainstream AV lab they have used in the past shows them with a score of 4 out of 10 on tests on various platforms they performed on the product since April, 2010. Informal tests from outfits like PC Magazine showed similat results.

Given the Antimalware product is now using the BitDefender engine, I suspect the product should perform better as evidenced by their recent good score by VB100 on the WIN 8 platform. However given their $40 one year license fee, I feel equal products exist at much lower cost.

itman, I wasn't aware of the VB100 results. My opinion was mainly based on MRG tests, and having used their behavior blocker Mamutu for a couple of years, along with a year off and on using Emsisoft AV and Online Armor. Good to see that their latest test with the BitDefender engine did well at VB100. I'll keep an open mind about them and keep looking at other test results.

Then again, Emsisoft only once had a wildlist miss, other negative results were because of (a) false positive(s).
VB numbers can be used for many claims; 'Emsisoft scored 100% detection in 90% of all VB tests since April, 2010!'.

Good Evening ! Relax folks...before I'm castigated as a Pure Heretic...I currently use Emsisoft 7.0 Anti-Malware...I'm Anti-Marketing Hype...I'm of the feeling that a product's effectiveness is it's strength...and Marketing often gets in the way. That's all for now...May The Force Be With You All...LOL. Sincerely...Securon

Good on them. Makes me want to get a license lol. If anyone knows of any deals, let me know.

But until that time comes, I am happy with all of the AV's that I use for different reasons. But would be nice to have a license for EAM. Have they increased the speed of the product and fixed up web browsing slow downs?

    Cheers.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware $17 for one computer and $25 for three computers:

Same thing, only under the name of MajorGeeks:

You probably know this, but MajorGeeks has a good security software review site here: http://majorgeeks.com/

In the latest version they switched from Ikarus antivirus to Bitdefender. Anyone seen detection going down?

From personal experience detection is now similar but with less fp's.

    Apart from the Naysayers,
    there are the Slanderers,
    who constantly attack,
Software Developers, Testing Organizations etc. without valid Evidence.

Slanderers never offer a better Alternative (i.e. a better Software, a better Evaluation Method etc.)
than the one they attack on.

Emsisoft is a great product, and is absolutely remarkable at detection and prevention. If you combine Emsisoft with their firewall, it's a tough setup to infect, no question.

However I stopped using it because it can put a significant load on a PC, and overall impact performance across the board. FP's with Ikarus were a bit too high but I understand they switched engines? Also there were some BSOD issues in versions I ran a year or two ago, no idea if those were resolved. Otherwise I would use it in a second.

those are great prices. i've been using EAM again since version 7 came out. i haven't had a single FP. i had previously given up on the product a few years back because of a constant stream of FPs w/ikarus. performance is significantly better with the change to the bitdefender SDK, and i'm assuming additional optimizations to the product that came with the change.

I paired it up with WSA, which works well. I recently added online armor into the mix, and i'm finding that i'm not as much a fan of OA - ran into some significant issues with OA failing to trust MS apps with valid signatures. to be fair, emsisoft/OA support folks are fantastic and figured out what was going on w/the signature trust issue, but i'm left with OA not getting updates until the fix their devs came up with makes it into official builds.

I agree on OA, it really needs work. But putting WSA with Emsisoft would be pretty redundant, and offer a significant performance hit for little benefit. IMO anyway..

in my experience - little to no performance hit, and WSA offers protection EAM doesn't.

Thanks for the heads up. May pick up a license not sure. Was hoping for a little bit cheaper of a deal.

Which version do you recommend? The Anti-Malware one or Internet Security Pack. Thanks again.
