Product update is also automatic; a Restart balloon may appear, depending of the "gravity" of the update
All this time, there isn't a single timeframe/interval when protection could be off..

Thanks, that's good to know. Thanks to Mman79 also... :)

So far, no problems. I'm really liking this product.

Users at wilders always want tons of settings. Same happened to WSA. At the time of Prevx it didnt have enough settings then WSA joined this forum and they added so many settings to please the advanced users. Guess what those users moved on and now WSA has 99% settings that you never touch because the default install is already optimal.

Pretty much. The flip side of having a lot of settings is you invite people who really should just leave well enough alone to start playing with buttons and sliders. Then either some conflict will happen, the program will get too aggressive (which will lead to complaints about too many FPs instead of just not being able to manually handle them), or the protection will drop like a rock.

Frankly, I like it the way it is, with nothing to worry about. If it does something crazy and deletes a good file I want, then I might get upset, but otherwise, I like to install and then forget about it and let it do it's job...

For the most part I'm with you. Like I said earlier, I like some control, but I don't want to feel like I can't just sit back and enjoy the ride either. Control over quarantined files is coming, per earlier responses by Iulika0069.

Ok thanks. I would love to be able to disable the auto scan feature without any warnings, or of course impact on the protection.

Will you post on this thread when the new update is released and available for download?

You could just add an "Advanced Mode" for expert users, you know.

Oh this would be wonderful! :D

I think we are more and more discussing about an expert mode where the user gets more detailed information and is able to exclude files, folders and processes..

And it would be at this point that the main goal of its design would be lost. They need to do some tweaks, not overhaul the entire thing. K.I.S.S and all that.

I would love to see that kind of info if you made a tool or something for it :)

I agree. K.I.S.S. is good here. It already won't quarantine system files, so all it needs is the option to restore quarantined files, and automatically add restored files to an exceptions list.

The first full auto-scan will always take some time to complete, depending of the system configuration and the number of files/GB used

Still, one should not notice any performance degradation during those auto-scan cycles. So what if it scans for hours, if you don't sense it? Just another paradigm.. ;)
Ah, if you do sense it's running, we have a problem.

The next scans, well, they are already optimized and should take much less than the first one
And, we are working on an idea that will decrease this re-scan time to just a fraction of the current one - allowing us to remove the user option of disabling the AutoScan (just kidding :D.. although.. :p)

Yes, we'll announce here the new update

I've decided to download a zip file from the Internet on Win 7 with BitDefender Free AV. I opened BDFA window to follow every moment of the download. Auto Scann was on but IDLE. Virus Shield was scanning the computer's dll and ini files. My download file was saved in Sandboxie, again, with no reaction from BDFA.
I was constantly monitoring the BitDefender AV window.
Next, I recovered the downloaded file from Sandboxie and again, no reaction or scanning on BDFA behalf.
I've waited for ten minutes to see if BitDefender decides to scan that new file. No scanning. Nothing in the event log.
Is there another log hidden from the user that could prove "the download file has been scanned. No virus found"?

    Just trust me without questioning.

P.S. I love my Windows 8 Security AV from BD, but Free Antivirus is ...

I've just downloaded VLC player as a test file to see if I could reproduce the issue, and I too didn't see anything in the visible log or any scan of it in the shield. In fact, the shield was busily scanning other areas of the system. I'm not at all saying BD isn't doing its job, I'm only saying I could see why Zmechys would be concerned. We're both probably missing something but, yeah, I understand the concern.

Why are you bothering with clean files? Can you reproduce the problem with actual threats?
That's a sure way to determine whether the shield's working.

Well, trying to download EICAR resulted in the HTTP scanner blocking the page. That's about as much risk as I'm willing to intentionally take on my system, lol.

The interface doesn't print all the files scanned (that would bring a huge performance issue). It's supposed to be just a quick info that shows the user that the Shield works.

You could turn off the protection, get the EICAR file, upload it to a free file hosting website, turn on the protection again, and try downloading it from there.

Well, if it blocked EICAR from the main site, it would logically block it from the hosting site as well. The block only came up when I started the download. I'll wait for Iulika0069 to pop back in again.

I did something similar (downloaded eicar in zip file to desktop) that a couple of weeks ago - see result/screenshots earlier in thread post 391:

Perhaps it didn't aggressively attack the file because EICAR can't actually do anything, it just "looks" malicious? Either way, I'd rather not dig too far into that since the question that started it was whether BD was actually scanning files that were downloading/downloaded. I'm not really that concerned, but am curious as to why the shield doesn't show to be scanning a file or at least having the log show it afterward.

For the BD Free Antivirus users.
Please go to go to the C-Program Files - BitDefender - Free Antivirus folder and check the file gzserv.

    Iulika0069

Could you explain about "HipsImpl.cpp" in the gzserv file?
