i set up my task-bar vertically (on the right).
i got a launcher at the bottom for my most often used apps.

both of them are set to auto-hide usually, so i only see them when i need them, by hovering over the 'hotspots'.

  15. Finally, a minimal setup I actually like...

This is Debian 6.0.6, Openbox with the Gelb theme. mc is my file manager, pmount mounts stuff (no messing around with HAL/udisks), and I use dmenu for launching things (because I'm too lazy to mouse through the Openbox menu). The terminal in the picture is a URxvt session.

I dumped Ubuntu 12.10 in favour of Scientific Linux 6.3.

Contrary to Ubuntu, it's a real pain to get everything sorted out (find out where the program to install are, do a bit of pimping...).

BUT I have something simple, effective and stable, that I can safely use until 2020 (great support indeed)!

Thank you very much to Ocky who took the time to explain me how to configure Scientific Linux themes.

Thank you to Mrkvonic who had me discover Scientific Linux, through his reviews and who helped me set up my user in the sudoers.

Jolly nice, Lucy. :thumb: Now enjoy SL6.3 - a no nonsense distro as far as I am concerned.

My fedora 17 gnome3 desktop. Did I say gnome 3?! Love it or hate it, but you can't simply ignore it. You can read idiot tech blogs after idiot tech blogs shouting how bad it is. But after trying it, chances are that you won't look back. Atleast I didn't. Its pretty stable and full of eyecandy. Usability is a subjective thing. For me its very much usable with extensions and there are hundreds of extensions to choose from. Below are screenshots showing default Gnome 3.4 theme with Hydroxygen icon set, Elementary luna Gtk theme and Delorean-dark window theme. Beat that if you can!
