Does Ad Muncher include element hiding? By that I mean removing the spaces where a blocked ad would've been.

    Absolutely.

In fact it's more powerful than any other product.

You can add any custom CSS you want.

You can see many examples of CSS and JS filters in the default list.

Hi Jeffrey, sorry for getting back to you so late. Okay, I'm slightly out of my league here as I don't know all there is to know about cookie tracking and web bugs. Some entries I'm seeing are "Cracked beacon" (from Cracked.com), "Targus.Birth Year" "Targus.Gender" (from TMZ) "cdnbakmi.kaltura.com" (not sure where that came from). Those are just some examples. They don't seem to be the type of 1st party cookies I normally see. The "Cdn" example seems to be everywhere I go, and it's one of those scripts I was referring to earlier that really slows things down as I watch my browser waiting for that domain. There are many different variations, but it's always "Cdn" that slows down the process. That's what makes me believe it's some aggressive tracker/script I'd really love to be blocked.

kaltura is their video player so that's not bad.

    Where are you seeing this?

I don't see anything else not blocked on tmz.com

the only thing you should see there is facebook/twitter/stumblupon

since those iframes aren't blocked by default.

everything else that should be blocked is blocked.

the site isn't slow for me so it could just be one of the legit domains is slow for you.

Sorry to do that to you. :)

We have internal alphas, then internal betas, then private betas and then public betas.

Anyone can get access to private betas by hanging out in our IRC chat room.

A beta isn't available yet but when it is, that's the place to be since we can release multiple updates in a single hour/day

Thanks for getting back to me, Jeffrey. I've had more of a chance to look at things and it looks to my admittedly untrained eyes that Opera is letting some things through. You have Opera too so maybe you've noticed it? The thing was, visiting the same websites in a window of a couple of minutes, saw Opera collecting obvious 3rd party cookies that Chrome is not. These may very well be legitimate domains that AM sees no need to block. What I think is happening here is that Opera's 3rd party cookie blocking is weak compared to Chrome/FF. Actually, Opera makes it difficult to know if you can even control 3rd party cookies/domains. AM does miss things (which I've been trying to keep track of and report), but it looks to me at least that this could be an Opera issue.

That, or maybe I went down the rabbit hole and took too big a hit off the hookah :D

Ad Muncher will block the same exact things in any browser.

I can't speak to what Opera will or will not allow when it comes to 3rd party cookies since I accept them all in case it's an ad or tracking company I need to block.

Please point out something that you think Ad Muncher should be blocking and isn't and I will look at it immediately.

hehe no probs, perhaps you can announce the release of private betas on this thread as well,as you will get a more wider audience than the IRC.

The public betas can go to the forum. :)

the private betas will always be limited to my inner circle and anyone who hangs out in the IRC channel.

we don't want that many people to have the private beta.

too many reports early on causes more problems than it solves.

It's been a little over two weeks since the 50% off thread was first posted.

For everyone new to Ad Muncher how has the last two weeks been?

Any thoughts or feedback about Ad Muncher?

    Is it working well?

The only issue I ever have is when I am surfing the web and I will come across (rarely) a page that won't load with a message that says "Blocked by Ad Muncher". I'm assuming what is happening is that AM is blocking some phishing site or a site with malicious content? Would there be some way to put a message under the blocked warning as to why the page is blocked? Also, there is no way to get to the page without shutting down AM. Would there be some way to proceed to the page anyway without having to shut down AM?

Also, under the antispyware recommendation by AM, Spybot S&D is listed here -
    http://www.admuncher.com/guides/spyware.shtml

I wish AM would consider listing some other free programs that are more up to date and effective against modern day spyware.

Shutting down Ad Muncher is not necessary to bypass it.

You can just set a keyboard toggle from the Interface tab to toggle it off/on.

Although why would you want to?

Anything blocked is blocked for your protection.

Well, I agree that's a poor choice for anti-spyware. But, to be fair to AM, I don't think that's their focus and, really, the user should be researching such options their self.

AM is working well enough. The support is really good.

    Regarding "http://www.admuncher.com/guides/spyware.shtml"

Instead of (only) recommending software, it would probably be wiser to make a similar recommendation to this one: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=42148

    Just an opinion..

I will say I look forward to v5 when it's easier to block things like social. You guys provide a way and explain how to, but the inclusion of optional filters instead of having to c&p code and set things up manually will be a blessing for those who just can't understand all the jargon or simply don't want to fool with it. I'll agree that you're doing plenty right though :thumb:

You can filter custom apps via the Filter Targets tab.

they must be winsock based applications.

if there is an application with ads, report it so we can add its process name to the default list.

i read the help file very carefully, and use the + - in the filter options
    it does not work.
i can still find AM's dll in other apps by processxp.

Jeff, I've been very, very happy with Ad Muncher. I've been able to drop numerous extensions that have made surfing cumbersome and the customer service is absolutely top draw. When I use Comodo Dragon, the only extension I add is WOT just as a guide. I still use NoScript in Firefox (and a few others not related to ad blocking) but I've had no conflict. What is interesting is that I was doing some test on a VM and while on a particular website with just Ghostery installed, avast flashed up a warning that it had stopped something which would have crashed my pc. I didn't have that problem while using AM.

The sad thing is that it's difficult to explain to other people I know why they should part a relatively small amount of money for AM when they can get a free equivalent which in their eyes does the same job.

This is something we've struggled with for years.

many users see "free" and "open source" and think it's good enough.

All we can do is to continue to make Ad Muncher better and better so as to draw in more people.

there's so many things Ad Muncher can do over the competition it's not even funny.

Everyone says their product is the best so our voice is just one among many and users wonder who they should believe.
