They've got to give the option to restore files for this thing. There's simply no counter-argument they can give to make the lack of it more sensible, especially not this "We're the experts *wink and smile*" attitude they showed.

Do BitDefender list the file they have deleted since installing and anyway to recover those files. Just wondering.

Like many others on this thread, I have been following this since it started. I want to install BD Free, but I won't because of the inability to restore quarantined files. Its not worth the risk.

I'm disappointed because I can't use it, and I'm disappointed because I see a company that has shot themselves in the foot.

No its not true. After installing their Free AV i even tried their paid products for the first time ever and guess what i was impressed. Nevertheless im using NIS because its much lighter then BD. But i keep an eye on BD because i liked their free AV so much. So i would say mission accomplished. :thumb:

    I agree totally.

I like the idea of making it easy to use for the masses but it needs to quarantine and not delete with the option to exclude and restore. Quite frankly, I thought it would have been added by now.

Me too thought that this issue will be resolved after such massive criticism. Maybe BD team want to keep this drawback as a stimulus to get the paidee?

Do you guys know that this is a "TEST version" according to David from Bitdefender (France) and it will be a paid version just like we have in France.
    He said that to us.
    Any confirmation ?

BD Free is only available in certain countries as far as I was aware. But are you saying BD Free is a "test", period, as in it was never meant to stay free? If so, they're going to get even more complaints considering I don't believe this was ever labeled as such a test. Nor would it make one bit of sense. Who is going to pay for a version lacking features when they can just pay for the one that's been paid all along and have it all? I'm going to assume you're simply referring to the fact that this is only available to users in select countries, otherwise I'm very confused.

That would be a rather stupid move, considering people can just move to Avast, Panda Cloud, Avira and so on, and get that ability without paying a dime.

Agreed. I don't know why BD is being so obstinate & foolish.

Put the options in settings to standby (prompt for action after scan), quarantine, & disinfect (failing that to delete).

And make the ootb option to disinfect, failing that to delete. For the unwashed masses who think/treat their PCs like toasters. Because the way it is won't fly for the informed.

It really needs to quarantine or leave it alone. What happens when BitDefender has some grand mal false-positive and deletes all its users' services.exe or something?

So far, this is working quite well, no false positives and no problems running along side other programs (Comodo Firewall). I heard some say that having another security program running along side Bitdefender Antivirus has caused some issues, in my case I have not experienced anything so far (Keeping fingers crossed).

I do agree that a quarantine feature needs to be added, just in case there is those moments it does encounter a false positive.

Other than a few features that need to be added, I think this provides some excellent protection.

    Hi,

Actually you can restore files from the quarantine (this method is temporarily, until an exception mechanism will be included in the product). Every quarantined file isn't moved from it's location, the AV just adds an extension to it (.gzquar) and blocks all access to it.

If you enter safe mode you can access that file and copy it. This mechanism was designed to mitigate issues like those that happend a time ago on some x64 computers when system files were moved to another location and if you rebooted your OS the system wouldn't start anymore.

with some of the suggestions mentioned here incorporated into the product, I would pay for it. But I would keep the price very competitive.

Would I be correct in assuming that after fixing the quarantined file you then must uninstall BD?

It depends. If that file is a sample or some kind of tool that you use it one time only (let's not call it a keygen :p) you could disable the shield temporarily. In other situations I can assure you we're a fast paced team that will fix that false-positive as soon as posible after it's reported.

I think in that case the quarantine was not an issue but rather the false detections.

Your method is totally impractical to the average user whom i may add this product is more aimed at,Taking the decision making away from the user and automating the process.
The age groups of a family unit are going to vary and important security decisions are not going to be handled properly by young children etc hence the automation and agreed a restore function should be with this but in another area of the program.

I agreed with you. What I've described it's not suposed to be an "oficial solution", it's more a tweek for technical users.

OK then, depending on how the file is used, i could disable the shield temporarily and report the false positive. You can tell by my signature that I could probably live without an antivirus so I can live with that.

I tried to install it but it can't find a NET file. Tried several ways to fix/ repair it but it would not complete the install. Ended up with AVG free instead...

I gave up on BD, it froze my computer bad.

Had to go in to safe mode to "thaw" it out.

My machine runs sweet with avast!

gzserv.exe - if you block net access, you'll end up not having all the [cloud] functionalities..
