Sounds interesting.
It's always good to see new freeware,however with great offerings from Paragon,Easeus and Macrium,etc. already out there it has a lot to live up to.

 

Already available...but you can´t create a bootable disk!

 

That renders it pretty much useless to me alas

 

I believe you can create one but they charge you for it.

 

Do you think this is still a valuable/beneficial solution for a free imaging software, considering it only offers create & restore and image compression?

 

From what I can tell, it looks as if Macrium Reflect Free at least offers Boot disc support (Correct me if I'm wrong), as this does not.

 

i think this version is meant as an emergency tool, you only need a boot disk if you want to restore, you can use the free trial of the boot cd to restore if you need to.

the full version is portable so i am assuming this lite version is too. all you need to do is put the lite version program folder into a hirens boot cd and you should be able to restore for free too. i will need to test this out to confirm though

 

You're correct,Macrium free offers a boot cd (albeit the less functional Linux one).
Active@ should at least allow permanent image restore from a boot disc,even if they keep boot media image creation for the premium version.Free imaging tools are a well covered market,they need to offer more if they intend to make an impression.

You mention the free trial of the boot cd,how does this trial work?Does it "time out" or do they just rely on your honesty?

 

This must be a joke. You can backup but not restore. Wheres the boot cd?

 

It does say at the top."create and restore a back up."but without a bootable disk it would seem impractical,

 

You can Restore Partitions that arent in use like Backup hdds etc but everyone wants to Backup AND Restore their system partition so this free product is in comparison to other free products not very usefull.

You can make a bootdisk by using Windows ADK/WAIK

Sorry, I have never used Macrium Reflect, so I do not know how is Macrium Reflect.

As Active disk image is portable you can simply add Active disk image's files to the boot.wim
If you want Active disk image run automatically, editing the path on \system32\winpeshl.ini(AppPath=)

If you do not know above, a more simply way is that using Active disk image's trial bootdisk, and adding Active disk image lite files to that bootdisk. The bootdisk has an feature to add files.

The Macrium Reflect Free has the plugins built into the program. If one has WAIK installed, just open the program and either build the ISO, USB, CD or DVD. Just simple.

I really cannot see a trial boot disk being any good what so ever because the chances are the trial will run out just when it will be needed.
This is why i dont like trialware of any kind.
Free or not so free that is the question.
