The http scanner slowed down my internet surfing so I disabled it. I then just raised the protection elsewhere (move unknown apps to untrusted and unchecked the trust apps with a digital sig).

It certainly could be easily be resolved if they ever respond to tickets. But they never have.

Even the Kaspersky forum mods are 'embarrassed'.

that's really unfortunate u know...maybe i did not had a problem with kaspersky license because i always choose to retain my license info when iam upgrading...and about the mod's being "embarassed"...i actually find the mod's of kaspersky forum to be very rude...even though i have been a member of that forum...a passive member to be precise,i do read how they deal... "sarcastically" with any one who is new to their forum and posts his/her problems...i mean that's what i feel...if iam a newbee then i'll be overwhelmed by they way they reply ur first post...still i would say that iam a happy kaspersky user

    Hello,

Tweaks from the default setup, some already said here :
    [General Settings]
1 - Disable "Select action automatically"

    [Application Control] :
2 - Disable "Trust applications with digital signature"
3 - Move automatically to "Low Restricted"

    [Web Antivirus]
4 - Settings button -> Link Filtering tab : Block dangerous websites

    [Network] :
    5 - Monitor all ports
6 - Always monitor secure connections (click on Install Certificate)

From the french help file, this last one is supposed to be a default setting, but it was not the case on my installation.

    Regards,
    Guillaume.

Afaik SSL scanning is never enabled by default in AV software, because some HTTPS sites are not compatible and will not work when it is enabled.

I would like to say that this is one program that has never slowed my computer down at all.
There must be an awful lot of screwed up computers out there. Its the systems themselves that need looking at rather than blaming security software.
Seeing as it is a new year maybe users should consider a re-installation of windows and see how things go from there.

Whenever people speak of kaspersky they always mention heaviness and slowdowns and like i have said before i have never witnessed this with kaspersky.
    Just my observations and opinion.:D

While this is not not really about tweaks, I am testing KIS 2013 (trial version) on a Win XP desktop.

English version, language of WinXP is not English. Updated beyond SP3. Cloud protection/KSN disabled. Soon after I got it working, I disabled load rules for applications from KSN, trust applications with digital signature.

Every once in a while, perhaps especially after a reboot I get prompts for 'the usual suspects'. Disk defragmention (WinXP) is especially common. No matter how often I set it to trust, some time later (often after I've been away from the computer, not sure if that's a coincidence) I get a prompt asking if I want to trust it, allow it (once), block it, etc.
I get the same when I access the eventvwr. 'eventvwr.msc' In that case, many prompts. One 'trust' doesn't suffice.
I think that in the beginning I got that for accessing the configuration screen too. Fortunately, that's no longer the case. But I just checked accessing the Flash player through the configuration screen, and I had to jump through similar hoops. Again, I tried accessing the Flash player and this time a 'trust' prompt appeared once without further obstacles.
Sometimes I get prompts for Outlook Express.
I can't be sure, but I wonder if some settings are forgotten after reboot/shutdown.

While the language of the OS isn't English, it doesn't appear make sense to see that as the cause.

Has anyone experienced something similar ? Any ways to fix this besides disabling application control ?

I installed this on a fairly clean system, but you never know with the various drivers installed. I restored an image with KIS and things did not improve.
    KIS version 13.0.1.4190.

Sometimes I just keep pressing 'allow' over and over. 'trust' doesn't always (fully) work.

EDIT: after restoring an image several times, it appears that the issue was related to the Microsoft client for Windows, which was not installed on my system. KIS works mostly OK now.

Can someone explain to me the security risks of running an unknown app as high restricted verses untrusted? FWIU running untrusted means not allowed to execute at all. What permissions does high restricted allow and what types of malware can slip past high restricted?

    thanks

Highlight the high restricted group and click edit in application control, there you'll see what's allowed and what isn't.

    No.

A new version of System Watcher has been released and is automatically updated, to verify go to ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP13\Bases and check file version of klavasyswatch.dll, the new version is 2.3.4.709 Afaik this should fix most of the causes for slow startup. A fix for slow shutdown is still in the works in form of a patch.

For the first time KIS scan took all night and still was not finished. I have fix (F). I have "scan only new or changed files" set.
I remember in the past that some had trouble with iSwift and iChecker. The iChecker was not checked, but i Swift was. I unchecked that and ran another scan this AM. It took less than 2 hours, I was not watching it so not sure.

What are the latest thoughts on iSwift and IChecker?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

I had it installed about a week ago with patch e and had no problems with iSwift and iChecker both selected. Can't say with patch f. Probably the last time I had a problem with them was version 7, but some people do have problems with their individual machine that others do not have.

Thanks, Jack. I just ran a full scan without either iSwift or iChecker checked and the scan took 1 hr and 17 minutes. I might try another full scan with both running to see how it goes. I have not had problems in the past.

I don't remember what they do.

They keep a database of files that have been previously scanned so that when you scan only new or changed files it knows which ones to skip.

Thans, Jack. That is good to know. I am going to try another scan this evening and see if it makes a difference.

Kaspersky is one of the more in depth scanners and thus has more in depth scan settings.May i suggest a deeper perusal within the setting and perhaps see if archives etc are also being scanned.
Sorry if this does not help you but ive used kaspersky andthe scans only took approxinately 25 mins on my set up.:)

No it is not set to scan archives. It is set to scan installation packages.
    Thanks,
    Jerry
