Based on last 12 months test results, if Bitdefender IS doesn't win AV-C AV of the year (consumer), i'll eat my avira free.

Trend at top is a recent phenomenom. Others are consistently good top 5ers - F-Secure, Kaspersky, G-Data - but for consistency and no1s it has to be BDIS.

Having said that, for me personally, BDIS not agree with my lapotp - 2Gig RAM maybe something to do with it.

I don't even use BD but enjoy it being a part of G-Data 2013, I had issues with the BD2013 UI and Performance also, that's why my second best for my personal use was G-Data. I think a lot of the AV-C tests this year had BD and all products using the engine rated very high up the playing field.

It will be Kaspersky again or BitDefender; they tied.

I took the liberty of making an AV-C chart listing all the AV's performances for the year. Kaspersky and BitDefender got all ADV+ except for Performance.

Also, I calcuated points AVs got, with 4 points for an ADV+, 3 for ADV, 2 for STD, 1 for TESTED, 0 for N/A:

    Points Possible: 36
    -------------------------
    Kaspersky, BitDefender: 35
    F-Secure: 33
    AVIRA, BullGuard: 31
    Avast!, ESET, G DATA: 30

    Panda: 27
    eScan: 25
    AVG: 23
    PC TOOLS, Sophos: 22
    Fortinet, GFI-VIPRE, Trend Micro: 20
    Qihoo-360: 19

    Webroot: 17
    McAfee: 16
    Microsoft, Tencent-QQ: 12

    AhnLab: 8

Also sorry for essentially spoiling everything but the AV of the Year :D

^ Nice chart. I 'd still give it to BitDefender for giving the free version. :D
Although i suppose they could split the award.

One unfortunate thing is that the false-alarm tests didn't have awards, so I couldn't factor those in.

Also, I would say BitDefender, for remaining consistently good, and for releasing a free version.

@Brandonn2010: Note that PC Tools got Advanced+ in Anti-Phishing test and not N/A as described in your chart. This raises the points to 22. Other than that, good chart :)

I guess AV of the year will be Kaspersky or BitDefender, let's see :)

As a AV standalone, i would probably go for bitdefender, but i find kaspersky to be better as a full suite and although its not as pretty (again, my personal opinion), its easier to use.

What I find funny is that the suites in general did better on the performance test than the AVs.

Also, although BitDefender and Kaspersky got the same # of ADV+ etc, on the tests one would have to have done a bit better than the other and been higher on the awards list, but I don't want to dig that deep to find out who wins the tie.

Good Evening Securon! Webroot SecureAnywhere might be product of the year not only for its promising future, but also because of its innovative and outstanding protection now. All the best...j.e.

Lol. It is based on highest number of ADV+ etc, so Webroot will do poorly this year. It's only tests it did well on were performance and anti-phishing. It was last in protection because of so many user-dependent cases, and even if they were all blocked, it would still lag behind.

I find it almost impossible for WSA to win in the near future if test procedures and criterias would remain the same as they are now.
