Webroot's Firewall is not a true Firewall, just an outbound connections' monitor; so you can run WSA with any FW.

The webroot product is just a controller for the windows firewall.

Ha, how lite is Bitdefender? I like how simple it is but there are some downsides:isay:

Here is my security setup for 2013. If I'll have no problems I will leave it as it is.

    System configuration and hardening:
Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit
User Account Control: I have set UAC control on 'Always notify'. All changes to my computer need administrator aproval.
Autorun / Autoplay: This feature is disabled. Everything that needs to be run is run manually.
Services: All unnecessary services are disabled. Some services have startup type changed from "Automatic" to "Manual" and are run on-demand.
Windows 7 features: Unnecessary and unused Windows features are turned off.
User Accounts: Built-in Administrator and Guest accounts are disabled.
Logon: Secure Logon is turned on. It prevents other programs from intercepting my login credentials.

    Network security:
Router: Whole network is behind router with SPI firewall. Unsolicited inbound connections are blocked. Router has access from Wan and UPnP disabled.
Wireless: Wireless access to network is secured with strong password. WPA2-PSK EAS encryption is used.
Firewall: Windows 7 built-in firewall is enabled and blocks unsolicited inbound connections. Outbound connections are not monitored.

    System and applications security:
Sandboxie: Chrome and IE are always run in seperate sandoxes. This is how SBIE is set:
    - immediate recovery to download folder is enabled
    - content of sandbox is deleted when the last sandboxed program ends
    - only specified programs can start and run in sandboxes
    - browsers are run with dropped rights
    - browsers have blocked access to personal data
    - browsers have direct access only to bookmarks
ESET Nod32 AV: Nod is protecting my system from malware. It is monitoring my system partition, Outlook database and http traffic.

    Data security:
Acronis True Image: System image is created once a week to another HDD.
Keepass: All logins are stored in password protected database. Unique password is used for each login.
Truecrypt: All sensitive data is stored in password protected encrypted conatiner.
CCleaner: MRUs, temporary files and other junk files are deleted at least once a day.
Recuva: It is used to recover accidently deleted files and wipe deleted files from non SSD drive.

    Internet security and privacy:
Chrome: Third-party cookies and all pop-ups are blocked.
Adblock Plus: ABP extension makes my internet experience clean. Easylist and Fanboy's list are enabled.
OpenDNS: OpenDNS provides reliable internet connection and protects from phishing websites.
Other mitigations: No Java installed. No Flash for IE. Chrome PPAPI Flash plugin is enabled.

    Online banking security:
Banking environment: All banking is conducted in sandboxed Chrome after previous browsing session is closed, all sandboxed processes are ended and all data in sandbox is deleted.
Paypal: Only payments through Paypal for online purcheses are used. No online merchant gets my credit card information.

    On-demand scanning:
Emsisoft Emergency Kit: Once a week smart scan is run.
VirusTotal Uploader: Uploader is used for upload and scan of individual files on online service's site.

    Updating:
Windows Update: Windows update is used to update system and other software from Microsoft.
Secunia PSI: Scan is run once a week to check for security updates for my system and applications.

    Other security related tools:
Virtualbox: Virtualbox provides me virtual environment for testing purposes.
Autoruns: Autoruns is run once a week to check all startup items.
Process Explorer: It is used as replacement for Windows Task Manager.

I wish Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you :)

AV: Microsoft Security Essentials, ESET Online Scanner.
    FW: Comodo.
    AS: MBAM Free, SAS Free.
    Backup Software: Cobian Backup
Updating: Microsoft Update (run every month), WSUS Offline Update (run every month), FileHippo UpdateChecker (run everyday), Secunia PSI (run once a week)
Services: all unneeded services are disabled. For more information see BlacViper's service configurations guides.
Also I use xp-AntiSpy to disable all the known suspicious functions in Windows

I'd have thought you'd have washed your hands of some of those security apps by now. :p

(Who could resist such an opportunity? )

    Happy Holidays to all.

My Security Setup - Feel free to comment, criticize and/or suggest changes or whatever.

Hardware: tweaked Wireless N Router with security in mind

I have an old machine that I could use with something like Smoothwall Express but I'm not sure if this is really needed or if such setup would be too tiresome to maintain.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Windows 8 (Pro or Enterprise) is better but I'll use it when I buy a new machine that comes with it. Simple reason is, I'm too lazy to configure everything again to my tastes. To configure everything again, I really need one of the strongest compelling reasons, like a new machine...

    Security Suite: Webroot SecureAnywhere

WSA is the lightest security suite I've ever used, its detection rates seem to be beter than those of MSE and it also provides a handful set of extra tools. However, FPs are frequent and they are starting to get on my nerves.

Domain Blockers: Adblock Plus with Fanboy List (Opera); Fanboy TPLs (IE); SmartScreen (IE); SpywareBlaster (IE)

Sometimes I think that I should add more blockers such as Ghostery, but then, when a legitimate site gets blocked or trashed, I know that it will be more tiresome to find the responsible and fix the mess. I'm also not sure if SpywareBlaster is worth to keep (and update) these days.

On-Demand Scanners: Hitman Pro; Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

    Fulfills all my current needs.

Online Scanners: Comodo Valkyrie; Comodo Web Inspector; Jotti; novirusthanks; urlQuery; VirusTotal; Zscaler Zulu

    Fulfills all my current needs.

Encryption and Password Management: 7-Zip; LastPass; OpenDNS DNSCrypt; Neo's SafeKeys; TrueCrypt

    Fullfills all my current needs.

Backup: FastCopy; Macrium Reflect Free; SkyDrive; System Restore

There must be something to automatize and automatically sync things on both my hard drive, external drives and SkyDrive. I really need to research to find better and more complete options as soon as possible. At the moment, to maintain all my backups, images, etc regularly updated involves a very tiresome and slow process.

Hardening and Privacy: BDUSBImmunizer; BlackVipers' Services Configurations; CCleaner with Winapp2.ini; EMET; Several security/privacy tweaks; Temp File Cleaner (TFC); Tor Browser Bundle; xp-AntiSpy

    Fulfills all my current needs.

Update Management: Ma-Config; Microsoft Update; PortableApps Platform; Razer GameBooster; SUMo

Some of these tools offer wrong or unwanted updates sometimes. To manually update apps (installed and portable), drivers and others is a tiresome process and I only do it because I'm slightly addicted to this process. However, this addiction is slowly going away and I'm now looking forward to more automation in this area.

Right now, Comodo IS 6 and Kingsoft AV free. Comodo is impressing me more and more and I really like the latest version.

    GPG for Win for encryption.

I don't feel a need for anything else and might keep this setup for at least a month or two.

    My previous Setup was
    Bitdefender AV Plus 2013
    Outpost Firewall Pro

Shadow Defender impresses me beyond all words
this is one software whose license was totally worth it for me

so i made a few changes to my Setup
Avira IS 2013 (minuscule updates, great usability of PC even when running a full scan, speedier system scan)
Comodo Firewall v5.12 (no pop ups after a day of Learning Mode) version 6 has some compatibility issues with Google Chrome, and was quite confusing.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware (BD engine :D ) deactivated Real Time Protection.
Real Time Protection will only be enabled when my PC exits "Shadow Mode"
Shadow Defender (best 35 bucks i've spent)
Paragon Backup and Recovery Compact (needs no introduction)
    Lastpass Free
    Bitdefender TrafficLight

i know Bitdefender AV 2013 is a better protection than Avira, but i chose to go for Avira on account of its lightness.
Frankly i won't miss BDAV because Shadow Defender won't let anything change my system Drive.

    so i still need Sandboxie?

Sandboxie won't let you down. You can use Lifetime license of Sandboxie on any number of computers that you personally own.It costs around 40 USD for the lifetime license. If you have more than one computer, you can certainly make use of Sandboxie license, but Shadow Defender can be used on only one computer at a time.
