Between us we have several flash drives. And to make things easy I have autorun.inf on 'em so they each have an easily identifiable ico picture.

But Appguard dutifully blocks autoruns from flash drives, hence no icon appears for quick visual i.d. Is there a way around this?

Hello, is it possible to set both Signed and Unsigned as guarded? When I set it to High, Signed is Guarded and Unsigned is Deny. When Medium, Signed is Unguarded and Unsigned is Guarded.

    Hi,

How do you update Flash Player automatically with Appguard ? What about your settings ?

My settings doesn't work : (even with 'medium' and 'high': same results)

Add Adobe in the Publishers tab, with install set to allow. Will not work in locked down though AFAIK.

Although I think setting it AppGuard to install mode before updating is better as some malware has a Digital Signature of Adobe's products.

I've already on Publishers tab. Moreover as I already told before, even with AppGuard settings on 'high' or 'medium' I can't install it.

Thanks a lot it worked. I have removed Steam from the power apps and added it to the user space section and it runs even on lock down.

I also use Sandboxie. I moved this from powerapps to userspace. It still runs no problems but Appguard keeps producing the same message.

"Prevented <Sandboxie Control> from reading memory of <Firefox>."

I have tried the Ignore Message feature but its not stopping it. Appguard keeps spamming this message every second. Should I worry about this as it constant? If not is there a way to prevent this from appearing?

I'm very curious about Appguard, could you say me about its complementary to my actual setup?

    Win 7 32 bit ▪ Outpost Firewall Pro 8 ▪ AdMuncher ▪ Emsisoft Antimalware ▪ WinPatrol
nProtect MBR Guard ▪ NoVirusThanks ▪ Sandboxie

My machine is not fast, just a core 2 duo 1.8ghz with 2gb ram and a 60gb ssd (laptop).

I'll try to read this thread from the very first :ninja:

Try adding SbieCtrl.exe to the MemoryGuard Application Exception List with Type set to ReadWrite.

That appears to have solved that. Thanks again.

If it is possible could anyone give me a run down of how Guarded Apps works?

I tried to use the Help but it doesn't show with anything for some reason. What type of apps should I used as a guard app? Would sticking apps like Chat programs (Skype etc) and Steam as well as media/video player under guarded apps help to futher protect my PC.

Firefox/Office and Thunderbird seem to already be in there. They all run smoothly but I still don't have a clear understanding what guarded apps do.

Did a quick search and could not come up with the answer.

How can I backup AppGuard's settings?

Currently there is no feature within AppGuard to automatically import/export settings but I believe it can be done, albeit somewhat clumsily, as follows.

The settings are held within two policy files named AppGuardPolicy.xml. They are located in the Application Data\Blue Ridge Networks\AppGuard folder within the user profiles on Windows XP. There will be one within the administrator profile used to install AppGuard and another within the All Users profile. You need to backup both of them. The folders on Windows 7 may be different from Windows XP but the file names will be the same so just search for any AppGuardPolicy.xml files and copy them away somewhere.

I suggest the following procedure when restoring them. In the Advanced tab, temporarily uncheck the "Stop Self Protection (TamperGuard)" checkbox. Next set the Protection Level to Off and uncheck the "Re-enable <xxxx> level after <xx> minutes" checkbox so that AppGuard protection isn't automatically re-enabled on the next restart. Now copy the backed up policy files back to their original locations and restart the PC. All being well, the backed up settings should now be active again. Don't forget to re-enable the previous Protection Level and TamperGuard when done. If that doesn't work, try restarting the PC with AppGuard protection off before restoring the backed up policy files.

I am using AppGuard with high setting, I was wondering if it's ok to surf the web at this setting or should I use Lockdown mode? Any chance of nasties downloading and running on high settings? Lockdown better protection against trojans, malware and ransomware as opposed to high mode?

thanks, clear and helpful as always!

    @ Barb,
here's another suggestion for version 4, an automatic settings import/export function!

The main difference between Locked Down and High is that High allows digitally signed executables from trusted publishers to be launched from user space and Locked Down doesn't allow anything to be executed from user space. The difference from a practical perspective isn't huge so High is okay for normal web surfing.

For best results perhaps also consider combining AppGuard with a light virtualization utility, or an application sandbox such as Sandboxie, to ensure that anything nasty you might encounter via the browser is fully contained within a virtual environment. A layered security approach consisting of both policy restriction and virtualization makes for a very secure setup.
