Well the way i meant my previous post is that configuring the new CIS with Chirons updated article went fast. As for anything different to the Firewall...hmm the settings look the same to me, but i am no programmer. It all works as easy as it was with CIS 5.12 for me.

At the moment i only need to get used a bit to how CIS looks now, and i have a small problem with the new CIS and my File manager. Which hopefully will get solved some how soon. :)

If you look in the Bug Reports-CIS section of the CIS forums and look for my Nickname(Same as here.) then you will find the thread.

I've had a problem getting the Comodo 6 Gui to come up after install on XP Pro SP3. Have tried clicking the desktop icon and tray icon to open but it simply will not. The program is running alright, but I can't open the interface. If anyone has any solution, please share.

Is there any way to open the GUI at all? Does the widget show up?

This may be an installation error. Your best bet is probably to reinstall it by following the advice I give in this post. Please let me know if that works.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your response, Chiron. No, I've tried every way possible to open Comodo 6, but to no avail. Yes, the widget does show up on desktop. I went and downloaded your uninstall tool and will try it. Comodo 6 is no longer on my computer, but I will use your tool if possible, to get rid of any remnants. I'll then do a fresh install as soon as I know my machine is clean of leftovers, and see if I can open the program interface again. By the way, I did a custom install for the firewall only, which succeeded.

    Thank you.

    Hi chiron.
2-3 mins minimum but sometimes a little longer. Its not a really big issue for me but would like it to be slightly quicker.
Its the new version so i expect a few quirks but overall its running very sweetly.
    Thanks.

A lot sooner chiron.it was almost instataneous with the previous version which was 5.12 that i had installed and i did use revo and comodo programs manager to uninstall that version so version 6 was a clean install as far as i know.
    Thanks.

If you're not experiencing any other problems I believe that this is some sort of bug. If you'd be willing to report it in this thread I'd appreciate it as hopefully the devs will be able to reproduce it and fix it for the next release.

By the way, the required format for reporting bugs is given in this post.

I advise leaving the HIPS disabled unless you want granular control over applications.

How long has v6 been out? I've been waiting for CIS to update. I guess since it's a new version number it isn't automatic. Comodo's release notes are still at v5.10! (another release note page has v5.12) :argh:

Anyway, before I install, can I just install v6 over v5.12, import my configuration settings and then tweak with Chiron's recommendations??

I would love to install CoMoDo Firewall again on my computers ,but I am
worried that its so difficult to do a clean Uninstall, is that still the case?

The only way to get rid of it before was to wipe the whole HDD
    regards Worgeordie

I'm still in the mist of configuring but if you had a problem and want to uninstall, in the past you may want to try Revo or Advanced uninstaller. If that fails you should have a backup image of your system software you can recover.

You need to uninstall version 5.12 before installing version 6.0. Only then can you import your exported configuration. I'm of course assuming you exported your configuration before uninstalling version 5.12.

To upgrade safely please follow the advice I give in this post.

Please let me know if anyone has any other questions.

    Thanks.

Ooops, I've never been that patient. :D

I installed over 5.12 then followed most of your instructions. Installation went well, certainly better than when I installed Comodo v3 for the first time.

I did export my 5.12 configuration, can I assume that's no longer any good?

I think I only really had one custom rule and can recreate that easy enough if need be.

    Thanks.

Hey maybe you or Chiron know, are there instances (like mine) where you can install over an older version of Comodo? I just hope in my haste I didn't screw anything up. I see two potential problems. One, I click on task manager and there's nothing in the window, and I click the kiosk mode and my laptop slowed to a crawl. It wasn't a pleasant experience, however, I did have an extended display ti my HDTV. I did manage to restart and have been reluctant to try it again.

    @Chiron,

I see here that you can import old settings of version 5.12 to ver6? Correct? I am now downloading the installation file for ver6 as I write this one. I saw in some other forum that I'd have to start making rules from scratch ( I do not remember where but I seem to remember reading something like that as I was on the wait for version 6 to come out from beta).

How about the rule for KSecDD? Can that be removed now in version 6? That was for the ransomware trojan I think..

I've seen quite a few problems from installing over the old version. Thus, if you run into any problems you will likely have to reinstall it by following the advice I gave in the post I linked to.

I'm not sure how well the rules will work. You can try importing and see how it goes.

As for the KSecDD rule, that is no longer required. This version is more robust. Thus, changing the behavioral blocker to restricted will protect you from all ransomware I am aware of.

Yup, what's the old saying, "haste makes waste"? Besides having the Kiosk mode slow to a crawl, I notice internet, firewall and proactive security with two sets of options, one labeled 512. Since I made a custom rule, I exported the v6 settings and uninstalled with Advanced Uninstaller. Re-installed, went through the scan process again and imported my settings with the our configuration and my custom rule.

Two things, along with the "bugs with the first install I noticed two anomalies with my desktop pictured below. And Kiosk mode is still buggy, no GUI to turn it off and clicking to find one shut down my laptop. I've always had problems with the Nvidia hybrid driver, and without knowing for sure, I'd be willing to bet it had something to do with the shut down.

Anyway, I won't be trying Kiosk mode again anytime soon.

Would you mind trying to reinstall CIS once more, carefully following the advice I give in my post. Then, if the Kiosk still behaves as you describe it would be very helpful if you would make a bug report about it in this area. Please follow the format provided in this post.

Doing so will increase the chances of this being fixed in the next update.

    Thank you.

OK, it probably won't be until tomorrow.

If it makes any difference, I use Advanced Uninstaller, and clean the remnants in the registry and left over folders. I'll wait to imprt my custom rule until after I find out if Kiosk mode is still buggy.

I'll also upload the images I said I would in the post above. I edited them to include arrows pointing to the cause of concern and then couldn't get back on the Wilder site. With the most recent install I no longer have the desktop anomalies. The 1st image is the top center of my desktop and the other self explanatory. They're both from the same desktop background image.
