Yes, it's performing a memory scan before scanning the file

nevermind. The tray icon problem magically fixed after 3 restarts.
@Iulika0069, May I ask if Bitdefender AV free auto-updates itself to the newest version or we need to download the new version on the bitdefender website?

I hope that the scan speed will be improved in the next version.

BD AV Free auto-updates itself hourly; of course, the product update is not that often, but the check is made hourly too

What do you mean by scan speed? On-access? On-demand? Autoscan?

My main issue is that it's too "automatic" for my taste. I installed it for a while and i was clicking everywhere trying to see the settings and i was cursing like "open up, damn you!", "where's the manual scan?!". And it did the classic freeze in "updating". Anyway, i am not comfortable with an antivirus that decides on its own what to do in all times.

But i can see what's their target audience and it should work for many people. It would be good for computer illiterate relatives, though. "What do i do?", "Nothing, just let it do whatever it wants". :D

I mean the right-click manual scan. It's too slow for me.

It's slow because is performing a memory scan before the scan-itself
Will try to change this behaviour to be less intrusive..

Please do add an option to exclude certain items/folders from scanning.

Thank you for the new free bitdefender.
all went well with my instal. The problem i have is the gui shows
an auto scan to be running and the log shows it began over three hours ago. Is this normal and latter scans will be faster?

    thanks

There is a back ground scanner and it is always going to run when idle. I turned it off which doesn't effect my security. I really like this product.

I agree. I'd like it to have options to exclude file/process/folders, like others have mentioned; but, I'd also like to be able to set it to scan, but let me decide what to do, both in real-time protection and manual scan.

On the other hand, Where the bloody hell are the files I had in this foldero_O!!!! Get rid of this thing!!! :argh: :D

Yeah, that's something that i thought of too and i had shivers down the spine, thinking that it may "auto-delete" things. It better not have any false positives...

Would it be possible to exclude files from scan and manage quarantine ?

Last night when I installed it, the only issue I noticed was BD made "aboutblank" my home page in IE and I couldn't change it.

This is the web filter ... And you cannot say that X av is better than Y one during one test in X day ... We need to test it in a different way : malware pack and execution of all samples that get undetected.
Btw, as you said the web filter is exellent :thumb:

Bitdefender AV Free did this shortly after installation without my consent:

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regtlibv12.exe Gen:Trojan.Heur.JP.eu2@a4ScPUii Deleted

How do I restore this file? I'm 100% this is a false positive as I've had a few other previous AV installations that never detected any such thing. This is too close for comfort if it's going to start deleting crucial windows files for me to recommend Bitdefender to anyone else.

    Re: Bitdefender Antivirus Free

Restarting the system after installation can fix the updating problem.

That's bad. Look in the quarantine. In the logs, under the GUI. If it doesn't appear in the quarantine section, well, reinstall the application? (if something went wrong with .net framework 4) They still didn't explain the disinfecting and quarantine logic of Bitdefender AV free.

edit: I think Bitdefender AV free quarantine the files if they can't disinfect it properly. It isolate it from the system.

Nothing in Quarantine except for the eicar test file, regtlibv12.exe just got deleted straight away.

I've not noticed any ill effects yet, also can't repair .Net 4.0 as it's not in Add/Remove (as well as all the older ones in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework) and won't try a re-install unless I need to, because I think it's superseded by my .Net 4.5 install.

Can it be run alongside with other Avs like Webroot and Avast etc? Or does it need to be standalone?
