Linux Mint 14 Nadia review - Jolly good but

Here's a very long, thorough review of Linux Mint 14 Nadia 64-bit, tested on a laptop with Nvidia graphics card in a multiple-boot configuration from external disk, covering live session, installation, and post-install usage, including Wireless, Samba sharing and related problems, look & feel, new features in Cinnamon, multimedia playback - MP3, Flash, Microsoft Media Server (MMS), Apple Trailers (iTunes), package management & updates, Nvidia (310 Beta) driver setup, applications, themes, customization, phenomenally low memory usage, stability, suspend & resume, and problems like buggy Samba performance, Cinnamon crash on network restart in live session, multimedia players defaults and system integration, Broadcom drivers not being used properly, Software Center hiccups, printing, menu search depth, and more. i agree linux mint 14 is not 100% but as compare to ubuntu 12.10 on stability its 95% +

I installed Mint 14 last night and I love it!

It's a lot smoother than Mint 13 (for me).

I installed the beta Nvidia drivers and they work fine and have lots of tweaks (though a little rough around the edges). Just remember to remove the default graphics driver at the same time that you are installing the Nvidia drivers through Synaptic.

Audacious and Clementine works fine although I liked Amorok better than Clementine. I'm debating wether to dump Clementine and attempt to install Amorok.

I wish Mint 14 had a built-in "wall paper changer" like KDE.

 

Samba is just horrible. It's so broken that it's doomed to failure from the start.

(I used to run Samba on a Debian server, but I ran into so many random problems that I gave up and switched to SFTP.)
