    Hi

German magazine Computer Bild have just published its test result of Security Suites. Results were as follow:

    1. Kaspersky Internet Security 2013, good (1.89)
    2. Bitdefender internet Security 2013, good (2.0:cool:
    3. Symantec Norton Internet Security, good (2.13)
    4. G Data Internet Security 2013, good (2.30)
    5. AVG Internet Secuity 2013, satisfactory (2.6:cool:
    6. ESET Smart Security 6, fair (3.64)

I have just purchased five 3-year licenses for my WHS and 4 clients.
Now, I'm a little bit concerned regarding the a.m. result.
Was it at the end a bad investment?

Especially in test criteria "unknown viruses" ESET failed with 5.00 (23% were not recognised).

I cannot provide a link as the result is available as paper copy only at the current.

    BR, Stephan

The real-world experience is quite different and ESET is very good at detecing zero-day malware. I'd be really inteterested in getting the undetected samples to verify if it was actually a fully functional malware or if the test set included also files from the grey zone or other files that are not subject to detection. It is one of the basic AMTSO testing principles to provide vendors with tested samples for verification of the results.

You won't regret, trust me. These "tests" can lie. I'm testing the performance, stability, cleaning and detecting ability of all of the well known anti-virus softwares before I decide which one I'm going for. And Eset has maybe been the best anti-virus software I've ever used.

Many of the tests in the internet are fake, and is often provided by one special anti-virus deliver. I've never heard of the magazine "Computer Bild", maybe because of the fact that I'm not German.. But I'm sure they're a legit magazine.

Anyway, there are none anti-virus software that got the ability to catch all the malware. The result the German magazine published, can be different from day to day, and one day Eset Smart Security would be on the top of the list.

Another fact which is important to mention is whether this test is only based on the firewall or the whole suite(scanning, cleaning, etc). And since this test is only based on "unknown viruses", it won't tell you the whole picture of all of the anti-virus programs.

Test results can be skewed in many ways (intentionally or unintentionally). Marcos makes some very good points, as does Janus in another post (see https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=335506). I am not a A/V or A/M expert, but by my seat of the pants (ending my second year with ESET), I feel their product and support is top notch. I have had a few cases over that time frame when their support was needed and they have always been prompt and helpful. I recall recently reading somewhere that good computer security is a combination of using effective tools and not being careless. A multi layer approach if you prefer. I'll keep ESET a major part of mine.

    Sincerely,
