Are they going to update the free firewall or is it dead? I know they have a free suite but even that hasn't been updated since 2011, at least not on Softpedia.

It's not dead, it just hasn't been updated. It's still perfectly good for the purposes intended. What do you think is wrong with it as it stands?

Manny, why does Agnitum updates paid versions?
To fix the bugs and improves its functionality.
The same answer applies to Free version.
If the product would be perfect, there would not be need to release updates for it.

I didn't say it was perfect but Agnitum's logic for having a free version version is not the same as for the paid version. The two don't compare in their reason for existence. The purpose of the free version is for people to understand they need the pro version and purchase it. It's not be satisfied with it. That's why some functionality is different/disabled and you should not expect quick updates on the free version.

In any case, I'm not aware on any bugs in it that require fixing.

    I agree.
And that is exactly the reason why it should be updated along with paid version but with some limited features.

I think free version should get security updates. I don't think functionality updates should be given to the free version.

I have the suite installed on my laptop. It runs very light & without issues. I really do like this suite. I wish the signature updates were more frequent. It is updating once maybe twice a day. The previous version would also tell you how many files were scanned in real time by the antivirus scanner. I don't see it in version 8. Overall it seems to be a solid package. I will run it for a bit more & then make a decision if I will continue to use it.

Does it look like the release of PRO 8.0 is imminent, or does it look like it will be a while? I know it will be done when it's done, but is there an expectation? :)

I hope there's an RC2. I'd like to see more changes before it's final but I have no idea what is next.

Does it still force you to see "Agnitum news" on the GUI or whatever that was called?

Well with all the positive comments it looks like I'm going to have to give v8 a spin soon sense I do have a lifetime license that I haven't taken advantage of in some time. Some other versions (7.xx) didn't agree with my system but maybe 8's a lucky number for me. :D

    Ah, finally! Thanks, good news.

Yeah, me too, i had bought it in some January offer some years ago and probably used it less than a week in total. Hated the news and a bit on the heavy side CPU-wise.

I will wait for final release and try it.
