Steam Games begin including Linux requirements

    Am I understanding correctly that official Valve games will be ported to Linux, but all other Steam games will still be Windows-only? If so, why is Steam on Linux such a big deal?

    Because if Valve will succeed expect all others to follow. With Big Picture and Steam you could have your own Linux console in the living room.

    Because there is a risk of Steam is getting pushed out of the Windows ecosystem thanks to Win8 not-Metro.
    Valve are creating Steam-on-Linux as a plan B if Win 8 not-Metro replaces the traditional Windows desktop as the dominant platform for PC gaming. Also allows them to leverage Linux as a technology for a console (as mentioned above), without them having to develop their own entire platform (which is costly).
