Require some info about BitDefenderAV 2013 and KasperskyAV 2013

    Hi guys
since my Avira IS license lapsed a few days ago, i am thinking about getting either BitDefender AV 2013 or Kaspersky AV 2013 ,both of which are available for quite a bargain in my country.

But i have a few questions before making the purchase

    1)Is BDAV2013 and KAV2013 compatible with Comodo Firewall(Proactive with Defense+ config)?
2)If there are any incompatibilities, what are they? and are there any recommended tweaks to solve them?
3)If the incompatibilities are unresolvable, would Online Armor Free be a good replacement as a firewall?

You could try for a suite: At downloadcrew's software store, you can find PC Tools SD+AV for $7.95 and PC Tools Internet Security for $9.95. For a 3 PC license that's quite a bargain :)

Anyway, BD AV+ should run fine with Comodo, I'm not that sure about kaspersky. I'd actually recommend OA Free to Comodo, but that's your choice.

PC Tools Internet Security --
    Nice Advice -- :cautious: :cautious:
I would rather leave my pc Vulnerable to Malwares or go for Roboscan Internet security Free than go for PC Tools'!
    http://www.roboscan.com/home/home_main.aspx
Talking about Bitdefender and Kaspersky -- I will advice to try both, Depending on your test- Buy one of them!!
They provide good amount of days for trial!!!
    Bitdefender- 90 days trial
    http://www.downloadcrew.co.uk/article/27729-bitdefender_total_security
    Kaspersky - 60 days Trial

PC Tools is basically Norton - if you are going to say it sucks, you might as well say Norton sucks. Neither AV-Test nor AV-comparatives agree with you; and people are using it without issues. Just because one product scores 95% and another scores 99% in a detection test doesn't make one significantly inferior in real-world security.

Experience based on the Free Antivirus should not be used to judge the paid versions. Of course, in the end, it's your choice and you need to decide what works for you - I just provided a cheap and good alternative.

Another alternative is G-DATA internet security - if you go to the Indian G-DATA website you can get the suite at a decent price :)

 that's an interesting comment. PC Tools only uses norton database plus it' own. Everything else is different.

    Hmm....let's see.

Symantec database and engine - check.
Symantec cloud for FP minimization - check.
Symantec cloud for heuristic/cloud detections* - check.
Browser Defender/Site Guard reputation list - same as Norton Safe Web (you can check this - submit a malicious site to Norton Safe Web and observe that Browser Defender will detect it as a bad site as well)

*PC Tools cloud is a different server than symantec's cloud, but there is a lot of common data in these clouds. However, you may still see unique detections/FPs that may be exclusive to either Norton or PC Tools. PC Tools maintains it's own research as well in these clouds, that's why these differences pop up. Not to mention PC Tools has it's own database as well in addition to Symantec's.

So how is PC Tools different? Different program design, different modules, different real time guards, different scan modules, different drivers. ThreatFire is not SONAR of course, but arguably it's just as efficient in it's job.

So what does PC Tools lack compared to Norton? Pulse Updates and Insight. So it scores a bit lower in tests. When you are getting it a lot cheaper than Norton, a slight drop in detection rate is an acceptable compromise. And it only updates once a day.

PC Tools' current detection rate is more akin to Symantec Endpoint Protection System than Norton - but in any case the products are close enough that any drop in real-world effectiveness won't be significant.

Go to the PC Tools website and see the new logo - if they didn't want people to know the relation with Norton, they wouldn't have the similar check mark logo and "Norton Secured" seal. ;)

As far as malware protection goes - it's basically on the same level, though Norton is generally better in tests due to Insight and Pulse Updates. You can call the relationship similar to the one between say, ZoneAlarm and Kaspersky.

This company gets a lot of flak for things it's basically not. Their products are pretty good, just the perception is bad (no thanks to the barely useful free product they have and their discontinuation of ThreatFire).

The integration with Norton is set to continue, as described in an email I received recently:

Taking into account that for you buy a license means a lot of money why don't you try comodo AV or Avast, panda cloud, avira free or any other free av?
What do you think that KAV or Bitdefender are going to provide you that you can get using other free apps? Sandboxie, trusteer rapport, expoitshield, EMET...

Regarding the incompatibilities I don't remember anybody reporting anything for this combinations, you can always test the trial version.

Here in wilders there is a lot of people running their pc's without any AV, and soon or later when you have more knowledge about security you will notice that you don't need an AV.

ps: having Comodo Fw+Hips installed you also have Comodo cloud AV, every unknown executable is uploaded an analyzed in the cloud, but of course this does not count as an av.

Anyway take a look to sites like this -http://couponpaste.com/- to find discounts.

Thanks for your recommendations guys, much much appreciated :)

I think i need to clarify (sorry i didn't say it before)
I am looking for only an AV to go with Comodo Firewall with Defense+, so i am not looking for entire suites

what i am asking is if BDAV 2013 or KAV 2013 versions have any known issues with Comodo, and i would very much like to have the feedback from someone who is using BDAV/KAV2013 with Comodo Firewall.
and any recommended tweaks to make them run in harmony with Comodo FW

    @Firecat
I feel PCTools used to be a great product, but they went downhill since the acquisition, so i am not really inclined on considering it

I have been using Avira + ComodoFW for about 3 years now and i am very satisfied with the overall system Usability and Protection, however i found the malware Repair to be quite lacking Avira.
If AV-Test results are to be believed, Kaspersky and Bitdefender may offer better Repair and Protection against undocumented/documented malware
    Hence my switch :)
I've heard that BDAV 2012 was incompatible with Comodo FW
similarly NDIS had to be turned off in ComodoFW for better compatibilty with KAV
I might be a little insecure and a novice to have that confidence
Yes its more of a Cloud HIPS lookup
    Thanks:thumb:

Allow me one question, in those 3 years how many malware there has been in you system that the Avira or Comodo has detected or prevented?

I'd actually recommend you go with OA Free rather than Comodo, but it's your choice. :)

I occasionaly browse "unsafe" sites and download "unsafe" content
Avira+Comodo Protected my system from almost anything and everything,
but there have been a couple instances when the malware Avira deleted after a scan, traces of it popped up in a scan by Emsisoft AntiMalware or Malwarebytes.

While Comodo and Avira did warn me about them during the actual installation, i chose to go through with it thinking them to be a false positive.
As there are very many false Positives with Comodo Defense+(which is its only downside)
so after some time, when i realised the threat is not "false" but an actual threat(although limited threat), i tried to remove it, but traces remained.

I've heard that OA is a Motormouth when it comes to alerts and popups and is heavier on system than Comodo.
also Comodo is a fully featured FW even in free version unlike Online Armor.
Which is the reason i never tried it.

Although, if i do face any compatibility issues with Comodo, i will definitely switch to Online Armor Free without much thought.

OA is my second choice :)

Well, it seems Comodo is doing it's job for you, so you may as well keep it. :)

Personally I have come across brand new, undetected malware in my experiences in the internet. I can tell you Avira and BitDefender are usually among the fastest in adding detection in those cases. But most products do protect very well in zero-day. :)

    Same experience here
Avira Bitdefender and Kaspersky are among the fastest in documenting new malware, Detection Rate of Avira is 2nd highest (acc to av-comparatives detection review).
But Avira fails(rarely though) where the other 2 excel, Removal of malware in case it has already taken hold on the system, due to no fault of Avira+Comodo but my own disability of discerning a proper False Positive.

Those are box packs and they do not deliver outside India. However, there are good deals going around if you fish around for many such products (e.g. G-DATA AntiVirus 1 PC for 10 USD) etc. :)

Send me a PM if interested in G-DATA for that price :)

The whole code and core is different. You can't say it's the same when something no matter how small thing is different. That is why the big difference in tests. If you say this is similar to ZoneAlarm and Kaspersky then you're right. ZoneAlarm is not Kaspersky. ZoneAlarm uses the Kaspersky Enterprise engine and that's all. That's not everything.

Yes these all are Box Version of the AVs!!!
No direct key - Minimum purchase of INR 300!!
    BTW G Data Costs - INR 338 . That's 6 USD :D :D

I used both Norton and PC Tools!!
I have tried so hard to like their Internet Security product(PC Tools) since 2008!!
Every Year i used to get free one year serial of their product by some promotional offer!!
used to install it & couldn't keep it on my pc more than 24 hrs.
Malwares keeps appearing after cleaning it so many times.!!!
I made some of my clients to purchase it, they went mad on me after using it for the few days
So PC Tools has been one of the worst experience!!
For Norton, It has always impressed me but is not meant for me as it is so aggressive:doubt: :doubt:
If you are Novice Internet User -Most of the employees here in govt. sectors are, then norton is for you!!
