Kaspersky IS best compromise?

Some antimalware/antivirus programs shine at this test site, some at others, but none is master of all. To me, Kaspersky IS looks like the best compromise.

Maybe if I add some additional security, I can raise my protection status. To keep things simple, I thought of:

• Sandboxie (free version)
• Malwarebytes (full purchase version)
• [optional: Ghostery]

Can someone please comment on this and maybe give some better recommendations?
I don't want full fledged (and hyper-complicated and from a user's perspective rather unmanagable) HIPS' or application level firewalls, what Kaspersky IS or Emsisoft IS provide is good enough I think.

IMO, stick with KIS by itself and use a good imaging program as backup.

 

Get a good imaging setup so you'll always be able to restore a known clean image when you get infected or suspect you are infected. Also good for system stability issues.

 

malwarebytes is a nice second opinion tool but for KIS its not really necessary but if you have couple of bucks laying around it wouldnt hurt to buy the lifetime licensee.

just grab some free scanners and do routine scans, i rcommend:
-HitmanPRO
-emsisoft emergency kit
-MBAM (if you decided to stick with the free ver)

 

whatever your choice is the best is what works for you and your PC. Be sure to trial it first especially if you plan to use malwarebytes full version with real time scanning.

 

KIS should be more than enough.
One of the best suites out there IMO.

 

We all go thru this scenario. Try KIS first. In the end I chose not to keep it.

My thoughts on my set up is invest in permanent things. For me it was Sandboxie & Appguard. And for an AV/AM its Emsisoft AM7 free as the housemaid who pops in once or twice a week to sweep house for me.

Never buy until you try.

 

If you run any other on access scanning utility with the great sharks such as Kaspersky or Bitdefender, you are only asking for trouble and compatibility issues which may not appear at the first instance.

Seriously, with KIS or BIS, you don't need any extra layer just look at their position in the Virus Comparison on various sites, they are always on top with 99% or so detection rate

 

Hi BerryRacer. Emsisoft is a duel engine beast. It's own A-squared anti-malware engine PLUS Bitdefender's AV engine.

 

Specifically tuned though, so perhaps a little different than throwing two programs together although MBAM strives for compatibility.

 

I changed the KIS default settings to move unknown programs to untrusted, un-tick allowing digitally signed apps to run automatically and prompt for action. That has seemed to work well for me overall.

 

I run MBAM with every AV. I think it helps, but it gives me an added confidence.

Just add Appguard with KIS, and you will be set. Appguard is an anti-executable, and it will stop just about anything when set on locked down mode. IMO it is far more secure than any traditional AV. The good thing is that you can use it with your AV to enhance the security you already have. Don't take this statement lightly! If AG will run ok with your setup then you will be hard pressed to find anything that will enhance your security more.

 

I agree. Not much can get past AG in locked down mode & combine that with KIS or MBAM it would be very hard to be exploited.

You are forgetting (or may be you did not know) that Webroot SecureAnywhere runs perfectly with KIS.

 

I think you are correct.

If you look at all the tests from the last year, it seems that Kaspersky is probably the most consistent top performer along with Emsisoft. To me, these seem to be the two best traditional AV/AMs. (I use neither)

 

I always run scans outside of windows with boot up disks

Have no real time AV, sometimes they sell you one thing and
then do a "switch" and you don't have what you paid for
Always keep a clean image around, the best AV you can get
