Just updated HDM12S to the latest 16240. Created an ISO file and burned a DVDRW after that.

It didn't find a external USB 3.0 drive. I booted up my previous disc and it found my drive. Thinking that I may have used a wrong driver, etc., I tried again with the same results.

Always use a RW first and test it.

Do you mean the WinPE disk didn´t find the computer USB 3.0 port to which an external USB disk was connected? Not strange, it doesn´t have drivers for USB 3.0. They must be added manually, just as in the previous versions.

Yes, I installed the drivers manually just as I did with the previous versions.

Maybe there are problems with the external disk. Was it recognized by WinPE media with previous versions of HDM?

I built a WinPE with HDM 16240 using PARAGONPE and added USB 3.0 drivers. It works well and recognizes the USB 3.0 ports.

How did you create the WinPE? Did you use the Boot Media Builder and WAIK?

It seems that with the new BMB it is possible to use the MS ADK (Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit for Windows 8 ), instead of the WAIK. I think (not sure) that if the ADK is used, the resulting WinPE is a WinPE4 with built-in USB 3.0 drivers, and isn´t necessary to add the drivers manually.

Iused the BMB and WAIK. The same DVDRW was used to test the last version but of course was overwritten again.

If you remember the first BMB version didn't work so I wasted a disc and now I test before writting the ISO to another disc.

It´s better to use USB keys.

You could try to build the WinPE with SIW2´s PARAGON PE Maker (https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=335734), or try the Linux boot medium. Recent Paragon Linux boot media work well with USB 3.0.

I will try the BMB 16240 later, perhaps using the WADK.

Why switch? It worked on the previous version so it should work on this one also.

I downloaded SIW2's zip file some time ago and during a McAfee virus scan today, it was flagged containing a virus, etc. for some reason. It was unzipped already but the zip file itself was flagged.

I have to confirm what wptski has told us: BMB build 16240 does not work properly (is not able to find external USB 3.0 units).

Environment: Win7 Pro x64, WD My Book 3TB using USB 3.0
    Process:
¤ Started BMB for Hard Disk Manager 12 Professional ver 10.1.19.16240,
¤ Added drivers (Renesans 3.0 USB 32 bits (nusb3hub.inf and nusb3xhc.inf) and Realtek NIC (rt64win7..inf) – BMB did not accept the 32 bits driver)
    ¤ Created the iso file
    ¤ Burned ISO to CDRW

My CD with build 15808 works perfectly. And so does my USB Mem Stick with build 15839.

@ Robin A.: Yes, also I prefer the USB Mem Stick. IF THE COMPUTER SUPPORTS THIS BOOT METHOD...

I think we, the graybeards that have used the computer for a couple of years, prefer wptski's method to test a new iso with a CDRW disc!

I did and it worked well, no problems at all. I used WADK (not WAIK), created an ISO file and "burned" it to an USB key. The boot USB key booted without any problem (different interface, Windows 8-style). The HDM GUI is somewhat more attractive.

The resulting boot medium has USB 3.0 drivers, it is not necessary to add them manually. It recognized an external USB disk connected to a USB 3.0 port. I verified an image that is in the external disk.

If anyone is interested, I can provide more details about the procedure I followed.

Note: this was done in Windows 7 x64.

OK, I used WAIK (like wptski). Could you please be so kind to tell how to use WADK on a Win7 computer?

(But I still think it was Paragon's intention that it should be possible to use WAIK. BTW, I have opened a support ticket.).

Yes, of course, BMB should work with WAIK or WADK (also with OPK ??).

The use of WADK is similar to that of WAIK. You download the WADK and then install it. It can be installed in Windows 7 or 8.

There are two options to download, to directly install the package, or to save the files and install later. I chose the second option, to save the files and install later. The download size is 2.55 GB.

To install, there are several options. I chose to install only the three components which I thought were necessary: Implementation Tools (contains the DISP), Windows PE Environment, and NET Framework 4.0 (although it was already installed in the computer). The size of the installation is 3 GB.

I installed WADK with Returnil enabled, to "uninstall" it with a reboot. I saved the files in a data partition and in a DVD, so I can re-install when needed without another download. The installation doesn´t require a reboot.

The rest was the process with BMB. I pointed it to the WADK location, specifically
    C:\Program files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit.

I didn´t add any driver. The USB 3.0 drivers are built-in.

I've just created a USB3 CD with HDM12Pro Build 16240 and done a successful backup. This was on 32-bit Windows XP.
    Didn't notice any problems.

@JDG - glancing at your post above, are you using a 32 or 64bit version of the WAIK? Your drivers seem to be a mix of the two.

The problem was with W7 Pro 64-bit so far.

    To be honest; I am not sure. Paragon BMP directs me to c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\. I have subfolders like c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools\amd64\, c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools\ia64\ and c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools\x86\.

I have done exactly what I have done at previous builds. I am running Win7 x64, but I am told that I have to select 32b drivers because Paragon HDM12 Pro is an 32b app.

    What have I misunderstand?

Nothing! Yes, you need to use 32-bit driver. The path c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\ is all that's needed, BMB will find what it needs.

Are you downloading the WDAK or WinPE?

@JDG: you didn't misunderstand anything - I did exactly same as you except that I didn't add a network driver. Then ran it on a 64-bit laptop with a usb3 port.
I did find slightly newer Renesas drivers than I had before - 2.1.39.0 - but that wouldn't have made any difference.

May be the difference is that my motherboard does not support USB 3.0. I have an external PCI card to support USB 3.0.

What was the order? nusb3xhc.inf should be added first.

About the failed creation of the WinPE 4.0 with WADK: WADK is big. Did you install only the required components, or did you install all of them?

That would not be surprising. I have an external SATA card it won't allow any drives connected to it to be seen as a boot drive. I think the problem is that the driver needed to access the card is not available until Windows of whatever variety is loaded.

I don´t understand the point. A WinPE is an OS. The driver that is used to access the card is not the Windows driver, but the driver included in the WinPE.

I also use a USB 3.0 PCIe card. I have added USB 3.0 drivers to WinPE many times, without problems. Normally I add the drivers permanently, by modifying the WIM image and creating an ISO file with it.

WinPE 4.0, based on Windows 8, includes USB 3.0 drivers. I think this is a clear advantage over WinPE 3.0/3.1 based on Windows 7.
