    Hi,

I have picked up most of the tips regarding security measures from other members on the forum and thank you to those who have helped out so far.

My security set up is detailed in my signature and I am wondering what, if any, is offering protection to my wireless network. The wireless network is encrypted with a password buts thats about as far as it goes and I am not sure if the protection I have already covers this or whether I am missing any protection against hackers ?

Any comments appreciated in this respect and any general tweaks of my set-up

    Thanks

    Andy

If, on top of what you are using, your passcode is complex and more than 20 characters long (less is safe but more is safer) and you are using WPA or WPA2 then all is good

add few more characters even if you repeat the existing ones twice. also change the admin password on the router (assuming you are the owner of it)

I never understand, why would anyone use less than 63 ASCII characters for a WPA2 password? It is not like you have to remember it or re-enter it daily. Just copy/paste.

I agree with TOMxEU go overkill on the password and like Cudni said if you own the router change the password... at least 12 characters and if you are paranoid like me go overkill on it too :)

EDIT: forgot to mention if your router supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup and its enabled.. better disable it (worst part is even if disabled on some routers the attack is still possible)

Funnily enough I have just asked a question about wireless security. I use roboform to generate passwords, but there are some online generators.
This is one by PC tools ( norton ) there is another link on the site to use https too. You can use this to generate a long password, make sure you tick the puncuation box for extra strength http://www.pctools.com/guides/password/

EDIT @TOMxEU sorry didn't see your link, thats a good one

the reason I dont is that I dont really want to have to type a 63 character password in to my phone. I used to when I could copy and paste for all devices.

I have a WiFi router, one my comp connected to it through cable the other by WiFi. Is it so important to change the password on my router? I understand that my router is seen from other computers, like I see other peoples' roters in my computer. But anyway they cannot connect to my router by WiFi. Am I right?
