NOD32 v4 update reminders every week!

Hello

I'm running NOD32 v4 and was hoping someone could advise me on this problem...

Every 7 days the program tells me the signature database is out of date even though I have automatic updates set to run regularly every 2 days, and then asap if an update is missed.

As long as I switch the pc on regularly there is no problem, but often it doesn't get switched on for a week and therefore the nagging message appears. The pc also doesn't always have internet access.

I seem to recall that with earlier versions of NOD32 (and when I first installed ver 4) it would be a month, maybe even 3 months before out of date messages started to appear, and for my purposes that would be fine. Can ver 4 be configured to behave in the same way?

I also seem to recall that when I first installed the program the weekly reminders didn't appear, this behaviour only started after one of the updates from eset which may have reconfigured the reminder period.

I've been through the advanced setup, and there doesn't seem to be an obvious option other than turning off all alerts and popops altogether...

The out-of-date status is indeed reported after 7 days. If it was up to me, I'd even lower this period to 1-2 days at maximum due to the excessive numbers of new malware emerging on a daily basis.

 

I take your point and I'm sure for your pc it makes complete sense.

However I really think it depends on how you use your pc. If the pc spends a lot of time on the internet and you regularly install new programs then an up to date anti virus is very important.

But the machine I have is used as a media centre, it is hardly ever connected to the internet and hardly ever has new software installed. Therefore I think in this instance the update message every week is unnecessary, and it's a shame it can't be configured to say once a month. I also seem to recall that in earlier versions of NOD32 the reminders were less frequent.

In the advanced settings you can disable popup messages and that does stop the update reminders. However it also disables alerts at the same time, so that when a virus is detected, although it is still disinfected the user is never told about it, which is less than ideal.

 

Why not leave NOD32 update at standard settings ( checking every hour and update if necessary ). This is definitely no extra load or hassle to your system, and promised, ennoying 'out-of-date' messages will be gone............
