SP3.5 with Local Virus Lib comes with Avira definitions/signatures.

I don't understand the point of it, it's the SP3.5 which is ancient compared to current cloud only version which is at SP5.4 already.

Interesting. I've got AIS 7.0.1474 on this Atom 1.66, 2GB RAM, Windows 7 netbook, which I'm sure is retarding the alacrity of its responses to some degree but not to the point of annoyance.

Far be it from me to say that avast! isn't contributing to the slowdown on your laptop but I'd be surprised if there's not something else that needs sorting.

I put it on a client's netbook computer alongside MSE running Windows 7 starter that has 1 gig ram and it is not slow at all.
I also put it on another client's computer as a stand a lone because MSE hung it up and Avast slowed it down and it is purring like a kitten with no problems.
I have it on a test machine as a stand alone only with no problems either
If you use it as a stand a lone just move the check mark from System Defense from Quick to Standard

    Standard gives the best protection.
I think it scans writes, reads, etc. All that a regular anti-virus would do.
Quick just scans programs that execute. Much more lighter though.

Also Kinsgsoft recommendation is to if you are running it along side of another antivirus program as a backup use the Quick Mode

If you are running it as a stand a lone antivirus program use the Standard mode because it does exactly what you said above .

    Hi,
I just installed KS as my only AV to test it out. I went on the Eicar site and all the items were allowed to download (vs. Avast, which I previously used and which prevented anything from being DL).

OK, I figured that after DL, if I dbl-clk'd on a file, KS would stop it from running. It didn't, and a black window opened and then closed (like a CMD window, but I don't think there was anything showing in it).

When I highlighted all the DL files, rt-clk'd and scanned with KS, it detected everything as a trojan, and gave the option to clean.

Does anyone know why it would allow these files to download, and even worse, to run?

What browser are you running? Kingsoft doesn't support all browsers. All of the eicar files are blocked for me using Chrome.

I'm using Firefox v17.0, which was just updated from 16 yesterday, I think. I didn't realize that the browser would make a difference. I'm going to try on IE and get right back.

OK, same results, everyhting DL. Also, same as with FF which I forgot to mention, when DL the zip files, a KS pop-up said Boundary Defense was scanning the file, then a second later it said the file was secure. But after DL, the scan says trojan. Go figure.

Also, even if one browser or other is supported, once I've DL the file, should it be allowed to run when dbl-clk'd? Kind of scary seeing that black window, knowing something was running. If it wasn't a test file, I'd be afraid my PC was infected.

It's not a virus, so if it's not detected it doesn't matter.

There's nothing scary about it all, as once again it not a virus just a test file.

True, but it is a test file, so there's nothing to worry about at all.

OK, I won't worry then.;) but the pgm IS a bit inconsistent in that it OK's the file with the pop-up, then will allow it to run if dbl-clk'd, but calls it a trojan when scanned. I like the pgm and how it installs so quick and runs light, but they should be aware that some users might think it's letting trojans get past it.

Well, anyway, thanks for your time in responding.

OK, one more message. I restarted the PC for an unrelated reason, and when I tried the Eicar site again, KS prevented everything from DL on the PC. The pgm never said the PC had to be restarted when I installed it, but it seems to have made the difference. However, if I choose 'open' when trying to DL the zip file, it shows the Eicar file inside it, and if I dbl-clk it, it still runs and gives the black window. But at least I know it's catching things as they DL.:)

My laptop is showing "17 patches detected, 6 high risk vulnerabilities need to be repaired". Should I allow Kingsoft to repair them? Is it safe? OS on the laptop is XP SP3.

They are all Windows Updates, which will be installed when you select repair. It is best to do this to keep Windows updated.

Thanks for your response, Roger. I assumed that when I did Midrosoft Updates, these were included....guess I shouldn't assume - lol.

Actually the vulnerabilties not Windows Updates (but the patches are), but are things which can be done to make your Windows more secure, e.g. it will suggest you create a password your user account if you don't have one.

I installed Kingsoft Antivirus Cloud 2012 SP5.4 on my computer a few days ago and I must say it has done an impressive job so far. I'm no computer whiz but it looks like it has many protection features. Been running it alongside AVG Antivirus Free 2013 with no problems at all. One question I had though, is I've been kind of thinking about replacing AVG with Panda Cloud Antivirus free edition because I've heard it has great detection and removal rates, but since it is also a cloud-based Antivirus if Kingsoft will be compatible and not interfere?

Which is better between AVG and Panda?

Keep up the great work, Kingsoft.

Internet addict, you won't get a lot of responses since asking which one is better is against forum rules. No A vs B discussion. It tends to cause a lot of arguments and battles.
What I may suggest is take a look at some of the recent AV-C and other threads that have detection ratings. You can also try and just use kingsoft AV and change quick mode to standard mode.

Thank you, kjdemuth. I wasn't aware asking which AV is better is against the rules. Guess there's really no definitive answer to that anyway.

What about if I just ask whether or not Kingsoft is compatible with Panda which is also cloud-based? Thanks.

Yes. It is compatible with PCAV free. By the way, welcome to the forum. Keep an eye on this thread. Kingsoft AV 2013 should be coming out soon. It's sounds very promising.
