not excited. had nothing but troubles with opera 64. poor support on their forums as well. although this is the fastest 64 bit browser (beats chrome 32 any time of the day).

After having played with 12:10, I can tell you that the experience is not like that of Firefox or Chrome. It's more like TPL lists on IE 9, which is fairly poor in my own experience and opinion. Still, I have to admit even that is better than previous versions of Opera and AdBlock.

Hmm, I have to disagree there as well. Cold starts are very slow ((compared to other browsers)) and "heavy" websites took considerable time to fully load. As far as the forums go, well, oftentimes you get the Windows guy new to Linux in a Linux forum treatment :D

The Opera forums are sometimes not much more than a trollfest. It is a shame really.

Forums are forums. It happens there, in Linux, here at Wilders, MS and on and on. The Internet is an easy place to act like a horse's behind and get away with it. What can anyone do, ban them from a forum..which they can still go to and read even if they can't open their mouth on it? That's why I try to stay out of situations I know good and well will just go around in circles or start fires.

Back to Opera though since that's what this thread is about. Although I respect Opera for what they've accomplished over the years and always try out every release, I always end up being disappointed. I still don't understand why the browser is hardly ever discussed by any media or why there are no advertising campaigns from Opera Software. It's getting more difficult to even get tech sites to bother to review new releases.

True, but I have found that merely constructively criticising something about Opera can result in the whole thread disappearing. I have used Opera on & off for over four years. It has some brilliant features & is improving all of the time. It's not like I was insulting its mother or something.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel about being disappointed sometimes. Speaking of ABP for it, I think that I will stick with AdBlock 1.0.6. for now. It appears to have more control over individual pages than the Opera ABP version has. I'll keep an eye on ABP for Opera though. I think that it is early days yet.

I wish I could agree that it is improving, I just don't. Then again, experiences vary. Obviously a few million out there don't think the way I do and are using it happily. My experience isn't the death of a browser, it's just one out of millions. I'm ever so grateful they rid themselves of Unite and the other experiments that just made the browser crappy ((once again, my own opinion.)). Performance isn't something that can be put solely on the shoulders of Opera. Many websites just don't care whether it works well on a site or not, they don't code for it. On the other hand, they might if Opera were to, you know, advertise their product more.

I really think that extensions were an improvement though. They did get rid of some serious rubbish on it as well. I was thinking of those kind of improvements myself.

Yeah, even Opera ASA themselves do tend to treat it like it's a red-headed step child with a personality disorder. ;)

Just tried Opera a few days ago, I have to say, features/problems aside, it's still lighter than Chrome or Firefox. It's the only browser which runs fine on my ages old Thinkpad T40.

'Opera AdBlock' replaced by 'Adblock Plus' for Opera

In fact 'Adblock Plus' for Opera is a replacement of 'Opera AdBlock' extension (that doesn't exist anymore now).

That's interesting. I've tried them all at one stage. Some break pages. I even used to use one of Fanboy's lists (for Opera) pasted into its old .ini folder, which I think doesn't exist these days. I still say the best so far is AdBlock 1.0.6.

it doesn't work well under 12.10 Build 1652

there is no option to block all ads like firefox or chrome

and when i load opera , the webpages have ads , i have to open the adblock plus option and click update , and refresh the webpages to block all the ads

the verion 1.3.1 work great but 1.3.2 is buggy!
lucky i found the 1.3.1 and i re-installed but is there a option to block the update of the componets?

This is how Opera ad blocking has always worked I believe ((every release I've tried I mean)).

I think that they eventually will. Meanwhile I will stick with this when I use Opera.

I 100% agree. Todays modern browsers for some reason eat CPU like monsters. If you have enough RAM then by all means Opera will be the fastest and most responsive browser.
I was running Opera on 1.5Ghz core solo 64 bit version and in itself it worked flawlessly. The problem was getting the addons to work. NS is built into the browser (nice:), but flash, silverlight, flash got version for opera, all gave me nothing but trouble.
I will probably just stick to Pale Moon now, just because it supports flash without problems.

well, in Opera it's just a global on/off switch.
    nothing like NS.

but it's very nice that you can create a button to toggle it on the fly. :thumb:

    edit:
also nice that you can right click on any page to white-list a site for js.
