Should I use Webroot with MSE 4 (Windows Defender) in windows 8, or is better to use Webroot alone to avoid conflicts?

Either or works. So it's personal preference. You can use both and the computer will be a bit slower, or just WSA and lack the extra layer of protection. I personally am comfortable with WSA alone.

I have tried both combinations and they work well with each other but is it necessary I would say no WSA is all you would need.

If I were you, I'd stick with WSA alone, so you won't get any kind of slow down.

You don't need to get another AV to be safer. You can download portable scanners like Emsisoft Emergency Kit, Malwarebytes AM and so :p

After my experience with MSE, I would use WSA alone in a second...:ouch:

Definitely WSA alone. If you're the typical computer user it's all you need and has all your bases covered.
