DO NOT USE Uninstall Tool

I have been a long time user for Geek Uninstaller and never had problems with it. I thought of giving my support to the company and purchased the portable version of Uninstall Tool.

Then I formatted my notebook and reinstalled everything by monitoring the installations with the Uninstall Tool to ensure I have a perfect setup / uninstallation method.

I just got done from all this hard work today and after installing everything, I noticed there is an Adobe Flash Player Update and Adobe AIR update.

I then uninstalled Adobe AIR via Uninstall Tool, after the uninstallation, it told me that it found remnants would I like to delete them, so I chose yes....then I noticed it wiping all the Adobe installation folders of Adobe Audition CS6, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and Adobe Bridge CS6....

I then uninstalled Adobe Flash Player using Uninstall Tool, and it did the same thing exactly, I was shocked to see so many entries being deleted for such a small app...

Now when I went to launch Adobe Photoshop or any of the other Adobe programs, it seems like their entire folder was deleted :unknown: so I had to reinstall them from scratch

I have lost my trust completely towards this program and will not be using it anymore if my first uninstall went so bad when I have done everything perfectly!

 

I was under the impression that some of these programs required AIR to run properly/at all. So, if you uninstalled AIR, that might explain it..though I'm not following you on entire folders being wiped out.

 

yes you're right, they do use AIR, but man the entire folders of all apps were deleted that's not right.

 

No, it isn't. I guess the thing just decided "Well, AIR is going, such and such uses it..guess that means the user wants them gone too!". Kooky little program At least now you'll know to be very careful about AIR in the future. I'd report the issue to the developer in case that was actually an unintentional bug.

 

Bro I am starting to lose faith with these Uninstall Apps.

Previously, I used Revo Pro and when I uninstalled Java in order to install a newer verison, it wiped my entire Firefox profile!! Then I gave up on uninstallers for a while. After using Geek Uninstaller for like 2 months, I never had problems with it, so I bought the Pro version which looks much better and claims to be better in tracing / cleaning... and the first app I try to uninstall it messes up my entire Adobe collection

It seems that they make you *think* that everything is going perfect with them recording all the actions taking place during installation but come the time when you want to use them to actually uninstall something, and there's the disappointment.

I think the reason why Geek Uninstaller worked so well is because it did not do any tracing and simply cleaned out any minor remnants in the registry not like this time where it removed the entire folders of Adobe completeley

 

I just use Windows to do it and then manually delete the folders from the usual locations. If I think I need to, I'll let CCleaner run and hunt down the leftover registry entries. Programs tend to leave reminders in so many places on Windows it can get a little annoying at times.

 

I see, I will do that then and stop bothering with these snake oil tools

 

They're not really snake oil, as they very much will do what they claim. However, some are eager beavers and go a little overboard, as you found out. Some also will leave a lot behind. Like registry cleaners, uninstall tools seem to be a crapshoot.

 

I guess it's because when you installed Photoshop, it included Adobe AIR.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you saw the list of folders and "left overs" that would be deleted and selected them...

 

Well...yeah, I really would have thought you would have seen what was about to be deleted and thought "Hang on a sec here". Though I'm not sure what that particular uninstall program shows when it works as I've not used it.

 

I always use Windows built-in uninstall tool. When there are too much to uninstall, I just do a backup image restore. It's always a good habit to back your system, when there are something go wrong, it allows you to go back to a clean and healthy state.

 

I had this same incident about 4 or 5 years back. The problem is not confined to U.T. It was 'Your uninstaller' i was using. I wouldn't be too concerned. Its something about Adobe Air & CS I think. Re-install & try Revo or 'Your U.' You may well get the same hassle.

 

You should always check any remnants found before deleting them. If you aren't prepared to that, never choose to delete any remnants.

This is a problem with all uninstallers which search for letover files and registry keys.

 

I just use Windows built in uninstaller and then look for hidden locations for remnants and use a registry cleaner as Ccleaner registry component does not scan deep enough.

 

I've tried almost every uninstaller on the market, and i found them to agressive, maybe for windows XP it could be useful, but since i use windows seven, the built-in uninstaller is enough so far.

Also registry cleaner is completly useless for me (registry get hundreds and hundreds entries), so for example agressive registry cleaners found 500 entries and after several weeks the OS begin unstable.

however, a good junk files cleaners like Ccleaner or Wise disk Cleaners or a otherone is needed.

I'm using Uninstall Tool on daily bases and never had any problems with it.

Uninstall Tool worked fine in your case, I mean UT found some leftovers of ADOBE and ASKED YOU if you want it to remove them completely or not. From my point of view UT did his job, but you wanted to delete everything.

 

It should've found entries pertaining to Adobe Flash or Adobe AIR which I uninstalled bro, not the entire Adobe suite

 

As I'm already a CCleaner user, I simply use the Uninstall feature from the Tools menu.
