I take it that English is not your first language and you didn't mean to say this.

If you happen to do what I suggested could you please let us know if it worked for you?

Let me correct myself - somehow I left out part of what I was thinking - it didn't get typed.

Cool ! I had hoped for a better answer than mine and your answer was better. Thanks

Sorry my full thought didn't make it to paper.

    Hi Guys,

I did a clean install of Win 8, then re-installed SD ver. .331, 64 bit, no problems.
I did make some folders on the desktop, while in Shadow Mode, then rebooted & the folders (made in SM) were gone. Also I re-entered my license, & that was accepted. So far so good.

Really? I thought I had read on this forum, it wasn't compatible with win8. Very COOL!

Hi Rico, my guess is that your W8 installation is on an HDD, not an SSD - correct?

    Hi all

This is truly a long, long story!

However, I have recently purchased SD and installed the most recent build: and then I tried to wade through this thread which has filled me with despair.

Of all the builds, which one is "safe?"

    Regards

    Marse

Now that I've finally upgraded to Win7x64 I'm going to have another look @ SD.

    1. I have Win7 CDrive partitioned plus a couple of Data storage partitions. Is it necessary to "shadow" the data partitions or is it enough to protect the CDrive?
    2. I see build 1.1.0325 is well loved. Is there a link. The website offers .331

Most likely there are differing opinions on that. I also have a multi-partitioned HDD and I find it sufficient to just protect my C-partition when browsing the net. In addition, that way I can download files to another partition without having to concern myself with exclusions, which imho opens a potential 'hole' in SD's virtual container. Naturally I will scan those files before executing any of them!

I apologize if this has been addressed already, but I really don't have the time to comb through every post in this thread. But...

I noticed there are 2 different versions of 1.1.0.325. The original one, and then one with something called "Silent Update". I tried looking for information regarding it, and surprisingly found none. What exactly is it? It sounds like an updater, which I wouldn't want, but I heard it's more like a bug fix/patch. If so, what exactly does it patch? Is it an important patch that applies to pretty much all users? Or something that probably only applies to like 1% of users, in isolated incidents depending on a setup?

Thanks. A good friend recently sent me installers for both versions, and a key. I'm looking forward to trying this product out.

As I recall, Tony's first release of build 325 contained a redundant file (which didn't do any harm). It was brought to his attention soon afterwards so he removed that file in a subsequent release of build 325. Of course there are x86 and x64 versions of .325 but I don't think you were concerned about that.

    Hi Guys,

I'm using an hdd. Problem with Win 8 & SD just discovered.

With SD installed I could not use some (front) USB. Or not recognized looking at dev. mgr. found yellow triangles for generic USB drivers. Tried uninstalling, then rebooting. Yellow triangles were back. Tried Win 8 refresh, last program to be re-installed was SD, the yellow triangles were back. Uninstall SD reboot & YT's are gone.

New forum registrant. I believe I am posting this to the correct thread. If not, my apologies.

I have been using Returnil 2008 for some time, but have become very interested in purchasing Shadow Defender. What I am uncertain of after reading what I believe are "all" the posts is how do I purchase the program.....but download build 325, which it seems everyone feels is the most stable for a Win-7 Pro 64-bit rig.

Being blantantly honest, my primary intent for Shadow Defender (and Returnil for that matter) is to go into Shadow mode, do my web browsing to web sites I probably wouldn't have told my mother about, then immediately reboot the PC when I am done surfing. Sleezy, but true.

Welcome Snapper, you are in the correct thread. Shadow Defender runs smooth and well, even after some time on delayed development. I love it!:thumb:

Hi SnapperOne and welcome to Wilders. :)

If the main purpose is browser protection and privacy then perhaps also consider Sandboxie as an alternative to, or in addition to, Shadow Defender (they can be used together). With Sandboxie there is no need to reboot to exit its sandboxed environment, plus Sandboxie has a powerful set of policy restriction features that can be configured to further lock down its sandboxed environment and prevent unauthorised access to any confidential data that may be on the PC.

    Kind regards

    I agree with Pegr

Sandboxie and Shadow Defender are a great combination, I've used them for ages and as far as security goes , they are "the tops" :)
but if you want security with privacy and are going to sites that your mother might not like, I think your ip can still be logged. Maybe your mother won't care but I'd consider the addition of Tor (at times) to avoid "profiling"
You could use something like hxxps://startpage.com for your searches.

    welcome to the forum

Agreed. I find a combo of SBIE running in a ram disc, Shadow Defender and a VPN (TOR would do) to avoid ISP logging makes sure my mother (more worried about the wife though  ) will never find out what I do online.

I included Documents in Exclusion List before entering into shadow mode.
But after entering the shadow mode and i saved a word document file(not an empty one) in Documents folder.
System partition was scheduled to Enter shadow mode on boot.
Restarted the system and found nothing in Documents folder. This seems to a bug of SD.
Using version 1.1.0.325 in 32 bit system Windows 7 Ultimate.Has anyone experienced this?

I'm about to install this one again on my XP system but can't find the link for v.325, when I use the link provided by sdmod, it downloads v.331
Any help would be really appreciated.

P.S. To be honest, I didnt read all the pages on this thread, so I might have missed something.
