i was able to replicate the issue w/UAC on and off with an old (circa 2007) HP NX9420 notebook. UAC on = fine, UAC off = BSoD

    OS - Win7 x64, intel CPU, intel 945 chipset

very very bad that avira2013 does not come with an AUTO-UPDATE
because many of my friends don't care to upgrade manualy, they say they have and use an antivirus and it always updates itself.

That's why Avira should and must have auto-update for new version from 2012 to 2013 and 2014 and so an, to update itself without the user need to download it manual and upgrade it.

Quite true, it is always better to wait for their automatic upgrade. As my curiosity had the upper hand, I couldn't resist doing it manually, and I have to say that so far this has been one of their best versions in many years in terms of lightness and speed. I've even decided to keep the web guard on as it doesn't affect my browsing in the least.

Well then you have to wait for a very long time, because there will be NO auto-upgrade from avira2012 to avira2013.

Shouldn't the 'start product update' install 2013 ? (suite)

I am a registered beta tester for Avira. I just downloaded patch 3 of Avira and installed it onto Windows 8. Not one single issue yet, working perfectly.
    But be warned

In the release notes it does not claim anywhere to fix or work with Windows 8 so if you try be fair warned.

But for me, Yabba-dabba-doo, I got my Avira back with web protection and no slow down. Damn, life is good.:thumb:

I wish they wouldn't have added a lot of protection into it and made it a must for the toolbar to be installed.

    like the web protection

I got the pop up today on my notebook advising me of the product upgrade along with a download now button. I installed it using the custom install option to avoid anything (Ask related like toolbars and default search engine changes) when I got to the spot asking me whether I wanted to be notified manually before sending suspicious files to Avira. There was a link to find out more about this but it didn't work. So I checked the box (which is unchecked by default) saying I did want to be notified manually.
