I used to love KIS & KAV. For years & years I bought licenses. But with a month left on my KIS2012 license, I'd had enough. I'm not a fast typer, but I am a fast really fast clicker. And KIS2012 was always hanging me up. I'd click on a bunch of stuff & it was like the old days of dialup, WAITING.

Now Roboscan for now. Sorry KIS still love ya, but you've changed & slowed down.

not meaning to start an argument, but that waiting only happened to me with KIS even though I have a super fast system with an SSD and 16 GB RAM. It is that application monitor which caused slowdowns so now with KAV I don't have the slightest bit of delay. like none at all

Yeah, I believe when KAV/KIS first came out with their quick scans they had the "controversial" Object ID's (what ever they were called) which I believe stayed on the system even after Kaspersky was removed. But that sort of thing is probably commonplace now.

Yeah I'm getting lazy. Last couple years I'm using IS don't want separate FW.

I may look at Kaspersky in the future. Can you run MBAM Pro with it?

Well done. You found an article that says ZoneAlarm uses the Kaspersky engine. Please show me where it says ZoneAlarm uses the 2013 engine in case I missed it.

Kaspersky would be shooting themselves in the foot providing the full engine to other security companies. It is an SDK which includes some of the functionality and detection of the Kaspersky engine, but it is definitely not the latest and greatest 2013 engine.

Is there such a thing as "KAV 2013 engine"? I thought there's just a core engine which contains an unpacker, scanner, signatures and heuristics, and vendors are required to include their own cloud scanners/behaviour blockers. This core engine would be the same as the main KAV product (it is in the case of BitDefender). However, it's the cloud and additional features that make the difference, as well as cleaning algorithms since that also depends on drivers.

I know for a fact that KIS 2012 used a newer scanning engine than that of Kaspersky Pure.

so I guess there is a diff but I don't know what exactly

beats me...they still have the "safe money" component though. I just have my settings to move all unknown files to untrusted and that seems to work ok. But I'm not sure how Kaspersky determines what stays trusted after an update...I'm guessing by path?

to be honest if it wasn't lighter I would be very very surprised:-It has less modules and does less so it had better be lighter!
How does using Kav combined with other 3rd party apps to cover the missing modules compare to Kis?that is more of a question worth answering

As I understand it from what I have read elsewhere the functionality was not really popular...not sure who based that on what research...but that is what I have heard. Also, it did not appear to work properly on 64bit systems due to the limitations imposed by Microsoft re. access to the kernel, etc, and finally, and probably the clincher, problems with the upcoming Windows 8, again due to the Microsoft side of things.

It has effectively been replaced with Safe Money which secures/'sandboxes' https connections.

    Hope that helps?

    Regards

    Balders
