In Shadow Defender Shadow Mode on Win 8 x64 as I type.

Haven't tested really (only moved to Win 8 yesterday) and only used desktop to date, might be a BSOD around the corner but so far so good.

Sandboxie 3.74 (without Experimental Protection) works fine on desktop apps too if you'd settle for application virtualisation.

Chris, which version of SD are you using with apparent success on W8?

.331 but I've since found it only works if you had SD installed on your OS prior to upgrade and select the keep your data and settings options rather than going for a clean install.

It will not install on Win 8 clean I'm told by those who've tried it.

I only did the upgrade to get a feel for Win 8 and if I keep it will eventually go clean install and therefore loose SD by the looks of things.

    Cheers

Toolwiz Time Freeze gave BSOD everytime when I tried to turn on freeze mode. Not sure if it's due to the incompatible of SSD.

I'm waiting for faronics to fully Support Windows 8 with Deepfreeze. I saw they are having a beta Version out but the download link didn't seem to work.

So far only running Appguard on my Win8 x64 and the integrated Windows Defender which doesn't really bother you. You don't even have a tray Icon for that :p

Looks like SD is dying a slow death. By the time we get to Windows 9 I doubt anybody will be still using it. Too bad, cause for the trial period that I did try it seemed like a really good piece of software.

Quick update. I did decide to keep Win 8. Reformated, re-installed the OS and thought I'd try re-installing SD.

After 3 days all is well. Virtualisation seems to work as before. Malware and remnants I've tried it against are gone on reboot as expected. Whether it retains its seemingly unique ability to block the rootkits others couldn't I neither have the skill or the courage to test.

Not saying there isn't a BSOD around the corner, after all Tony looks unlikely to confirm it works, but so far so good.

I am using Wondershare Time Freeze 2.0.3.0 on Windows 8 Pro x64 (DreamSpark Premium activated). It is working flawlessly, not a single BSOD/slowdown/data corruption or any compatibility issue. I am more happy if Wondershare officially announce it for Windows 8

Nice to see that 'Wondershare Time Freeze' 2.0.3 is working well in Win 8.

This light virtualization application is a solid software indeed (without to need proliferation of updates).

and the best thing is that if also offers RAM buffer mode for more fast secure system with reduced HDD tear and wear. Moreover, it offers to enter in normal or freeze mode at boot time and this is the coolest part for me

:thumb: Thanks for being brave enough to try this. I've just installed SD myself on Windows 8 and so far it seems to be fine.

Shadow Defender 1.0.0.311 32bit have problem with USB on WIN 8. When I plugged USBs, my computer couldn't recognize them. After uninstalling SD, they can work normal again! @@

does the ram buffer mode work on win8 Pro x64? Last time I tried it on a Windows 7 x64 machine it took Ages to activate protection...

Also a Major downside of WTF is that it can only protect your System Partition. That is why it has Folder protection to instead to be able to undo/prevent changes on other partitons.

    Hi Arcanez,

Trying WTF at the moment on Win 8 pro as AppGuard and Shadow Defender don't like each other on this OS and it still takes a long time to start protection using memory buffer.

Folder lock works quite well instead of other partition protection but I can't see it lasting long with me due to the horrible delay starting protection.

    Cheers
