More love from Dedoimedo: a long, in-depth and very negative review of Gnome 3.6 desktop environment, focusing on changes in the new version, ease of use, look & feel, power off button, browser, file manager and documents functionality, Boxes, bugs and glitches, and more.

Mrkvonic, Pantheon has none of those problems! You would like a Macbuntu desktop - why not give it a spin? Its elegant, intuitive and user-friendly. Not too bad if you install GNOME Nautilus to handle the desktop in place of the native Pantheon Files Manager. I agree with you about GNOME 3.6. The extensions you have to install to get a usable desktop - why even bother? I look forward to your future review of the newest Linux desktop environment!

I will, it's the matter of time. Even I have some limits.

    Thanks.

I just think that simpler can be beautiful and well if you have to add things to GNOME 3 to get a working desktop back - its the wrong approach. An operating system should let you see your status, find your applications and pin them so you can launch them and add icons, files, folders and whatnot to the desktop.

It doesn't need extreme bloat - it just needs to work! For people who are used to windows, KDE, Cinnamon or MATE is the way to go - Pantheon is for those who like Mac OSX and what they all have in common is a traditional approach to computing.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, stupid. And I think its one that people will by large stick to since human nature prefers the familiar and after some initial customization people stick with with what works for them. Now, one can grant that a different interface is probably a good concept for smartphones and tablets but there's no need to reinvent the wheel for computers any more than people reinvent the controls for automobiles. In short, change isn't always desirable.

    From the article:
That's a sentence we seem to be seeing a lot of recently concerning the tablet/touch approach to computing.
    Thank you, sir.

I tried 3.6 recently and it seems another step away for accomodating regular users.

I really lolled. (OT; I also enjoyed, from a previous review, 'If Fedora were an entertainer, it would be a circus clown performing in Rwanda').
That said, Gnome steadily moves forward towards touch making it irrelevant for the desktop imo. And there are already much better touch based GUIs.
Hence, Cinnamon FTW. As Mrk mentioned, with Cinnamon you can make Fedora shine.

    Thank you, Mrk!

I couldn't agree more. (Also loved your article on 'smart phones'.)

I think Windows 7 is my last MS OS. The only Linux distro I've tried lately that doesn't
annoy me is Linux Mint, may it last.

OpenBSD, long a favorite of mine, is now my default OS. One can (evidently)
install Gnome 3.4.2, should one want to, for some reason. I prefer the sparse simplicity
of cwm, which comes with the base install, so life is easy.

Gnome 3.6 and why I am the king of everything

I've created this most serious yet humorous rant on why Dedoimedo is spot-on with his technical and market assessments, using the Gnome 3.6 reinstitution of the power off button as a prime example, plus several other notable cases like Firefox death predictions, the future of computing and desktop market growth, Google Panda algorithm change, and many others.
