KAV much lighter than KIS

At last, it seems that I've found my Antivirus! after a long search!

I used KIS for a couple of months before and hated how slow and sluggish my system became (check sig for specs). If I would launch like a large setup file with KIS, it would take like 20 seconds or so just for the file to start initializing the setup and decompressing the built in files. With that level of slow performance, and I also felt my browsing experience is kinda slow, so I switched to other AVs trying each one at a time and moving on

I've read someone on the forums here advice to use KAV only minus the firewall, parental control, anti spam, etc....

so I did, and I am astonished by what a difference KAV made! It is very light on my system even when doing a full system scan it does it in like 7 mins and I have 700 GB of DATA!

Futhermore, the system feels snappy just like when I had avast installed only this is more secure!

I am so glad I did this move and I advice anyone who is looking for a good AV to give it a shot!

 

It's definitely on my short list.

I have narrowed it down to 3 for consideration....and after all that I've read recently concerning Bitdefender, it's basically between Kaspersky and Norton.

Please keep us up-to-date on how you're liking it and your personal experiences with it in the near future.....

 

Good choice. It is hard to beat the protection offered by Kaspersky's products. I hope the AV works well for you for a long time.

 

Thanks bro. I've never had an AV for more than 2 days recently. tried every single one of them and finally was able to narrow it down to this offering the best protection and it's light! Who would've ever imagined that there is a huge difference between the AV and the IS?? Thanks to a member here who stated in another thread that if he was to buy an AV, it would be Kaspersky minus the bloat (Firewall, parental control, etc,) That gave me the urge to try it and boy was I happy I did

 

I have KIS 2013 and here is my set up, it's running very light and I like the protection of making unknown apps untrusted. I guess I miss the sandbox, not sure-

So you probably used the 2012 version of KIS? v2013 is quite a lot lighter than 2012 for some people and then moving to the AV at the same time might explain the really big difference.

 

I did try KIS 2013 recently. It is no where near as light as KAV

ok, interesting. Your full scan is really fast btw for so much data. In my experience Kaspersky always takes it's time with full scans. What hardware do you use?(It's not in your sig.)

I highly doubt that,no matter what your specs are.
For me KIS was as light as Avast or AVG,and i really mean light.

My choices are exactly the same as JRCATES. Can't decide which one should be my first choice - Norton or KAV. Another problem is I still love Eset.

 

I have used both many times, and I can not tell the difference in system resource usage between KIS and KAV.

 

I never notice a difference between either one as well. The automatic firewall rules on Kaspersky are done well.

 

You won't get as much protection with only KAV, unless you replace some of the "missing parts" (the ones on KIS) with other security applications. While I don't think that most of KIS' additional components are that important (some of them can be entirely useless in some situations, like anti-spam and parental control), for example I'm fairly sure that Application Control, which includes most of KIS' HIPS capabilities, makes a difference.

 

The exclusion of safe banking in the antivirus also put me off

 

I personally did not find any difference between performance of KAV and KIS.

 

Same for me.Both are brilliant.

 

I know you have referred to that as "slow", but it is actually doing something, a layer of protection you are not getting from KAV if it does not do that. If that extra layer of protection is not worth the 20 second wait, by all means use something else, but I don't really think that makes it "slow".

 

earlier versions of KAV/KIS were very slow allowing some apps to open, such as MS Office...very annoying...this version is much better...plus moving unknown apps to untrusted seems to be a pretty safe strategy...I'm not exactly sure how KAV/KIS remembers apps as they remain white listed after an update, so I'm guessing maybe by path?

What I do when I first install KAV or KIS is run a full system scan and let it finish. I think modern AVs use something called whitelisting where it won't scan that file again in the future since it was already scanned (correct meh if I'm wrong)
